Id be very interested to know which part is being replaced...

Still doing this now.. wonderring if it's anything to do with the Brando screen protector..

If whatever you get replaced fixes the problem.. I'd like mine replaced too.

And I'm not very hairy

I suspected the screen protector, too. After all, it is reducing the space between the buttons and touchscreen. Removing it did not make things any better, though. I also tried pressing the buttons with my fingers while a screen protector was in place, and the keys still required a firm press.

I wish I could get some technical info from the repair center, but the people I get on the phone aren't able to tell me anything, and they aren't allowed to forward my call to the people working on the phones.

Seem that I have such a problem but not when I'm on call, when f/c I tried to press the touch screen with a peace of cloth then it's start ticking some numbers (#3#293..) (btw number 9 & # surprised me coz it's at the bottom of the screen).
So maybe it's a factory defect with the touch screen ... or something else.

oferlaor over at HowardForums posted this:

"it happens on ALL P800s!!!

It's a bug in the software.

I'm not sure what triggers it, as I've tried to simulate it quite a few times.

Basically, when the flip is closed - try to clean (use cloth or your finger) the square where the touch screen should not be activating.

Every once in a while, you will trigger a number. The number is always one from the screen (e.g., a digit from the time, or something similar). Touching that digit, or attempting to draw out a numeric jog command does not work.

It is apparently some kind of strange glitch in the firmware.

I hope they solve it soon..."

Mine is still at SE repair, waiting for a replacement part.

pi,

ThanX, I was about to copy the post here myself...

For all those that think the problem does not occur on their phone.

Go to flip closed mode, and start to clean the square area that's left open between the keypad and the top of the screen. Every once in a while, a digit will pop up, even though you had not pressed any key on the keypad.

again, known problem. I suspect it will be fixed in the next firmware iteration, along with many other issues.

It's a very small issue for me, as I do not press the phone hard against my cheek, BUT, it is annoying and should be fixed.

I finally got my phone back after SE had it for 7 work days. They kept saying they were waiting for a part, but they sent me back a replacement phone, saying mine couldn't be repaired.

The phone firmware is R1D; I was surprised it wasn't the latest.

I haven't gotten any ghost tone yet, but haven't used it enough to say for sure this phone doesn't have the problem.

For all my trouble, I ended up with an extra stylus and battery cover.
