Another stupid American here asking about unlocked phones. |

I just wanted to comment on why America doesn't have "more advanced" phones. Its all about the money. Companies such as nokia profit a lot more from selling millions on one type of phone, such as the nokia 3390, then selling 5 different color phones. Also if all these new phones were released, people would upgrade, and maybe not purchase a new phone for several years. But if they release the phones as they are doing now, just putting on feature worth upgrade on a phone, companies benefit more. An example of this is hydrogen cell powered cars. There is sophisticated enough technology to produce hydrogen cell powered cars. But if companies just mass produced them and released them to the public, it would completly distrupt the economy. Another example is computer processors. Companies such as Intel, release their products in incriments, deriving more sales. If they just released a super processor, it would disrupt the economy. WOw i just wrote a lot of crap that probally isnt' true, but i think i'm close. haha wat an unuseful post. Sorry people. i agree, many Americans are ignorant. GO MEXICANS., hahah everyone hates them, ! |

I also am a proud American (Filipino-American) to be exact. I voted for Gore not Bush. But that's picking between Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum. Anyway we're getting off topic here. It's true that the U.S. is slow to adopt cell phone technologies like GSM with TDMA and CDMA providers wrestling for more customers. As for phones, te U.S is slow as well. That's why I bought my P800 in the Philippines since I'm on vacation anyway. I plan to go with T-Mobile when I return. Well...that's it for my 2¢.

90% of their network is Analog/TDMA/CDMA. What kind of phones do you expect people to use? The other thing is that with this phones it is very difficult to transfer the phonebook from one phone to the other one when upgrading a phone + you have to call the provider in order to switch you to the new phone. It is not like the GSM ones that you can have 10 of them and every day just take the SIM card and put it to another phone and ready to go. That is the major reason why Americans don't change phones very often. And also they are not well educated about phones because they never knew what unlocked phones are. They knew only about the phones their network provider would sell. Now that GSM is finally growing in USA things are changing a bit, but only 10% of Americans are using GSM. |

Hey thats getting interessting. Political issues.... One Point is clear, Mr. Bush is a very bad example of an american. But you cant blame all americans for only one asshole! I am against the war in Irak, but dont forget that, the biggest Anti War Demo was in Washington. However there are others more advanced Technologies in the US. We are all just a family, we are all fans, no matter where you all come from........
Amen
Mr Bush, his administration and his plan for war:

So ur a double exception: cowboy that hates cowboys and an american whose pride allow to be a little sarcastic about urself RESPECT!
@MrSavoy: No reason to get mad. He didn't write "Im another, next to MrSavoy, stupid american" nor "I'm stupid like all americans". Didn't mentioned you, and if there is in US at least one more person concidering herself as stupid (and i believe there must be, ur not that special as u think), it was his right to write it.
Useless nationalistic thread.

To answer the original question... there should be no problem using an unlocked GSM phone on AT&T... I am using and unlocked T300 from T-Mobile on AT&T and it works just fine!
I just want to throw my opinion into the pot here on this whole political bash... As an American that has lived in Europe for years I understand both sides. But I agree with Bush, and yes I voted for him. But when the world has gotten into a mess who has gone and cleaned it up... not the world... but the US. Check your history books if you dont agree. When most of Europe was in shambles the US helped rebuild. I lived in Europe when the Gulf War happend and many Europeans gave me HELL because I was an American and they didn't want "Blood for Oil".... It was not about that then, and is not about that now. What gives Saddam the right to kill thousands… The US has been the lap dog of the UN… we get sent in to clean up what they can’t. Well that’s my two cents, sorry if you don’t agree.

@scubba_steve: About the history: u didn't mention of Americas isolationism. Why do tou think America joined world war II? To help Europe? Don't think so. And why do u think it helped Europe to rebuild? Just to stop spread of comunism, which was threat to world order and America itself.
I don't have anything against US or americans though.
BTW, i think we should cut some posts and move them to non-mobile section. Its starting to be technical-political thread

And what gives the USA the right to kill them instead? I guess that, when Saddam kills innocent people it's terrible, but when U.S. 'smart' bombs kill them, then it's OK. After all, USA can do anything they want to because they have the biggest army and a lot of money. If you ask me, USA is a far greater threat to world peace then Iraq will ever be...
