From Mr Buks
· Xperia 1 has a higher screen size and Xperia 5 has a smaller screen size
· Xperia 1 does not support 30fps continuous exposure calculation
· Xperia 5 does not support 960fps ultra slow motion (CMOS changed)
· Xperia 1 battery is 3330mAh, Xperia 5 battery is 3140mAh
Other software feature differences should be aligned after the upgrade
If you want a small size phone, you can wait for it. 5
If you want to buy a Sony flagship, or Xperia 1

Just to ensure I fully understand, the Xperia 5 is a lesser version of Xperia 1?
Or are they meant to be variants?
Naming convention is all over the place here.

So, this phone is more narrow than the S10 but taller. One would probably say that the it's probably as good as the S10 which is around the same price. It should've been OnePlus 7 price because let's be honest, the only reason you get this over the Xperia 1 is the smaller size. Flipping S10E is the king of compact phones this year.
Xperia 5 is decent but too expensive and no way compact. Would be interesting to know S10+, S10 and S10E sales against each other to know if there is a market there or not. |

1080p low Hz display
No wireless charging
No jack
Flat screen without cuts or holes or anything that'd make the manufacturing harder/pricier
Plain old fingerprint sensor
No infrared face unlock or even an autofocus front camera that lacks 4K recording (low mp)
Yet they charge $800? Aside from aspect ratio this phone is not unique.
Without the earbuds it's not worth it. They should have priced it 750 max without the buds. I'm pretty sure I'll hear reviews say "It's a good phone but at that price it's hard to recommend. This and that is cheaper with more features. etc." If they could they should price it 699, so it's a good deal and people would be willing to try something new. |

Anyone know a website that sells cases for the Xperia 5?
None on ebay or amazon

I like the leather ones on the Sony Website but I'm guessing they'll be about £50.

Since there is no dram in xperia 5 that means there is no predictive capture |

Type xperia 2 case on amazon.
There is one.
From Avalri
$12.99
Does it really use frost/matte glass?

Even with the buds that's a hard sell. |

Yes expensive but this is the strategy now, make fewer and sell at higher price to maximise profits. I think the Xperia 1 sold well last quarter so Sony won't lose as much this year. Obviously the Xperia 10 and Plus are total bullshit devices which is why first quarter results were terrible.
I'm really considering the Xperia 5 but my brain is telling me to wait until it's similar pricing to the Galaxy S10E before I can justify buying it. The S10E is great in the hand and the 5 is more narrow so you might just call it a Compact. |

Only $50 more than s10e was released.
Well, considering iphone 11 pro 64Gb costs €300 more in Germany.
Not that bad.

You can get Xperia 1 for around £600 and S10E £500 on Ebay, new and unlocked so those are good prices, when the Xperia 5 comes down to £500 I'll go for it. My worry is that it becomes rare like the XZ2 Compact, I've had two of these both for £400 each. |

The 1 is currently £606 on O2 UK, and £640 from EE UK.
The 5 has to be like £500 to make sense.
