That, right there, is a terrifying thought. I wouldn't want Google with so many patents.
Should Ericsson bail out I'd rather they sell to any manufacturer other than Google.
I also think Sony wouldn't want Samsung to be directly involved in their mobile phone business. Sammy is already giving Sony a thorough hiding in the lcd marker, would they want the Korean giant own half of their mobile phone business when they (Samsung) are also kicking Sony's butt in the very mobile phone arena?

Thats so true Dups, and we've seen what too much power can do to a company abd industry.

I envisage a situation where the Motorola brand will continue to exist while Google's Nexus line will also co-exist alongside the Moto one.

It's like, "Excuse me Mr Nordberg, but we really should realise a statement on this take over." "Ah, hear what you're saying, lets see ah good old Jong's come up with a nice praise but this company is mine so I want to use the first person narrative but steal exactly what they said."

Google has it's own PC OS called Chrome OS (not to be confused with their browser ) which focuses on only the internet, so the whole OS is literally a web browser. Also I don't see how Android could be ported to work on a keyboard and mouse set up when its been designed for touch input, but yeah the day will be sad when tablets take over PC's

Are you refering to SE or Ericsson ? Because SE may use patents owned by Ericsson and Sony, but I don't think they own that many themself and hence are probably not as actrative for acquisition. The mother company Ericsson on the other hand have lots of patents, but is most likely out of reach for any acquisition.

It's best if SE manages to post profits from Q4, or else things start looking a bit gloomy. A takeover by the likes of Samsung is almost ruled out, Sony already have their fair share of troubles with them.
And I also don't feel that a company like Sony will chicken out from the ever burgeoning highly lucrative mobile market. If things get worse, Sony might buy out Ericsson's stake.

sony and google have already joint forces in a small way -
releasing google tv (which is in beta still if i remember right)
combined with sony bravia tv.

I loved the old Ericsson days although I do wonder how Ericsson cameras would fare had they not had Sony?? Would Ericsson have used some outside expertise in camera tech if they were not with Sony?? I think it may be quite interesting how both brands would look today on their own for design & tech!!

Some are saying that Samsung and HTC might turn to Windows phone mobile since Google would now become a competitor to them but Nokia has a close relationship with Microsoft. Furthermore, prior to jumping on the android ship Samsung and both used Symbian even though Symbian was Nokia's OS and they were essentially competing against Nokia in the same field.
I personally see no reason why HTC or Samsung would jump ship to WM7 when Android is doing so well for them.
