I have experienced hanging with a few symbian devices. One was the n82 not long after launch..the other was the i8910 tho that wasnt a regular thing. Suprising given that it had 256mb ram wholly allocated... |

I also used both Symbian and Android and I like them both. It depends on what you need. My symbian is for Business, Emails, GPS-Nav. etc. My Android is for playing/freetime. Just a comment regarding the "miiiiilions of software" for Android. Yes, most programs are for free AND completely crap. Install.....deinstall. Timewaster.

it always depends on what you want to do with your phone, android has tons of apps(programs/games) for free and for very cheap 0.5-5€
but there is a bunch of android handset to choose from with different specs

I'm a ex user of Symbian (SATIO, 5800, 5530,SE P990,SE P910).. now I'm using Android (SE Xperia X10 with Android 2.1 stock) and everything is better than Symbian.. web browsing with Opera Mobile... browsing in menus is more smooth and fast.. I have no problems with Android, no bugs... Symbian have problems everyday, everyday the phone need soft reset... Symbian is dead for me!

I used my N8 alongside a Motorola Atrix 4G .. dual core monster, still like the N8 better. It all depends on what you are doing with your phone. I am very active, running, cycling, etc.. the N8 is a much better companion for me. I drop it all the time.. the metal shell helps a lot, and it feels better in hand, can't stand cheap plastic. Symbian 3 is a huge improvement over Symbian 1 (5800 n97 satio).. very stable and fast. Android is cool, but it really doesn't do much more than what Symbian has been doing for years
I actually made a short video when I had both handsets

^ it isn't .. it just shows how performance is very much dependent on code optimization.. the picture gallery on the atrix sucks as an app, and even 2 cores and tegra2 can't help. And the difference in speed b/w the 680 mhz n8 and the mega fast moto isn't that noticeable overall. Symbian 3 is cleaner/lighter, in a sense that it doesn't need to support a java virtual machine like andro, which needs lots more power to achieve the same. There is no andro phone out there that runs 680 mhz and can compete with the N8

^^ true...as there's no 680mhz android available. still, having used nokia's symbian since 2001, and as much as i loved symbian, it's simply not as good as android. |

I think the Motorola MILESTONE is still selling, no? It has 600 mhz cpu.. but no 720p HDMI out, 720p recording, or a 12 mp camera.. it its slow as f**k
Symbian vs. Andro is an endless debate, like I said, different peeps..different needs.
@bonovox Andro is going to get a huge update soon.. I am very interested in what they've done with it. 4.0 is supposed to end the fragmentation issues and get rid of the hardware buttons ala MeeGo/Harmattan on the Nokia N9. Symbian is getting a whole new UI/Ux with Belle.. all QT based so it should run smoothly
