thanks for all your comments.

Some things in life you just don't have control over!!! Have you all considered that? I work for one of the largest Banking institutions in this small world, and there are not just yet ready to make the leap. I guess, my company is the last company on earth running NT. I am not concerned for my home PC, as I am running XP there....

Also, I know that MS is ceasing support for WinNT by June 2003. That leaves a company another year or so to fully upgrade. TO, SE, that's one full year without being able to sync at work!...phew...a real waste..i say

Oh...have you not seen USB to Serial adapters???

Now I hear you. I used Clies back then and I could sync with my company's NT because it didn't support USB. Since then I've given up on company networks (well, they've upgraded to 2k this year) and sync my PDAs with my laptop back home. It's much easier that way.

Actually, rather than complain to SE, you should complain to your company's IT dept. Afterall, they are the worse evil of the two. I put up a big question back then about the lack of technology advancement in our IT dept which was causing compatibility problems with other companies, and they moved on to 2k.

Thanks Brick, these things I do on a regular basis, actually part of my job to scream at IT. however, my company has over 80,000 employees running a very strict rules on what can be implemented. There are in the process to jump W2K and going straight to XP, but working on a special built, which allows more control. So until that's resolved that could take another year, bearing in mind, that hardware also needs to be upgraded. For now, my NT has lack of USB, but still have serial, bluetooth and IR. So you you circumvent the lack of USB in NT.

Sorry, and I can't give up on my company's network, cause that's where I need the PDA functionality. i am now looking at a hybrid....Synch at work with my PPC & Lotus Notes, then synch again at home with PPC and Outlook XP, then finally synch Outlook XP and the P800........ that's what you call "Living on the Edge of Technology" *Sighs...and goes back and enters an appointment into his Black Diary Book ....

Can't the P800 sync with Lotus via Bluetooth/IR on NT? XP didn't have any Bluetooth support either... you had to rely on the USB drivers that came with the device.

Oh, if your device doesn't have USB (the physical plug) at all... why not get the Serial DCU-10 cable of Ericsson? My old one works just fine with the same software of the P800. (I had an old serial cable for my R520, and T68i) ... it works just fine since the USB cable isn't really USB, it uses the USB plug to emulate a serial port.

I hope you find a way around it! The software that comes with the P800 can be set to monitor all comm ports on a PC.. including virtual, and IR comm ports. Then the SW itself can be configured to sync w/ either Outlook or Lotus. Please let me know if this works with your office setup.

ok...i should note...it's not connectivity that's the problem for now, its the installation of the PC Data Suite that'e the real culprit right. how to perform the physical connection can be done..so many alernatives are there.

I also work in a bank (IT-dep), and we also still use NT as the standard OS for the end-(l)user machines. So your company is not the last in the world to have NT, but that doesnt mean there is any point for SE to develop sw for it. For users the company gives a PDA to, we usually choose one that has a serial-connection and drivers for NT, or upgrade the users machine to 2000 (we are moving all machines to 2000 later when we have tested it enough).

So imho it's really your companys IT's fault if you got your phone from the company, they should see it works with your computer. But if it's your private phone, tough luck, they probably couldn't care less if some worker brings a private gadget from home and tries to sync COMPANY INFO to it, infact it's probably forbidden.

Thanks akiro, for you opinion and feedback. my company does upgrade on a selected basis to Win2K currently, if there is enough business justification for that individual, if the already supported Palm and PPC sync software cannot be used. Until this age my previous Vx and my current Jornada worked just fine. I just feel that SE should have supported NT in the interim, until all companies have made the jump. don't you think this could have then also brought in more Sales from corporates, if this could have been a supported PDA with NT support. Why do you think, that all the major sync software houses still support Win NT? yes because they understand that big market is the corp sector, not just some techno geeks (inclusive of myself) who have nothing better to do than spend outrageous money on this phone. Honestly, if had really known that the PC data suite did not support NT, i would have waited a few more months, until someone does a move either SE or my company.

now, i am just a frustrated consumer !!!
