hi just wrote a nasty email to SE stating my discontent of lack of support for Win 98 and WinNT. Who else has this problem? I just want to start chaining and really highlight this issue to SE. Truly useless this phone, unless this gets fixed.

OK I can understand why you might ask for Win NT support, but why should any company invest money in Win 98 support?? At the end of the day, although there might be alot of people still using Win 98 its old and totally out of date OS. There have been 3 OS since then!, 4 if you count Win 98 SE as a OS.

Win98 is still quite popular cause of its stability at home. nevertheless, I am really more concerned with the support for WinNT |

NT is even more ancient than 98, even Microsoft is officially going to stop supporting it in a year, there is *no* point for a company to develop software to it anymore.
And it doesnt even support USB for christ's sake, how are you going to connect the p800 to it? Why don't you go ahead and ask for DOS-support while u r at it, geez. |

Im afraid I agree totally that you shouldn't really have to have support for NT/9x.
However it does really surprise me that with a bit of playing you can't get it to work.
Obviously NT + USB ain't gonna happen, but can you definately not get it working with BT?
It does really surprise me you can't get 9x to work also. |

@cube4all...it would help if we knew what problems you're having with Windows.
If it's sync problems... have you tried downloading the updated sync software from SE support? |

Well, i use an amiga it home on os3.9 which came out in '99, there will never be support 4 that so why should there be support 4 on older os than that? I also have debian gnu/linux and people are constantly developing in new support 4 new things which are are FREE to install. If i was u i would upgrade your os for a better supported one

It may be unfair to say this but, how far back should we go? Why stop at 98? Why not go back to 95? 3.0?

Ooooo I can see a MASSIVE backlash coming fro Cube later
Seriously though, I can see his point though. To him it seems as if the P800 is FORCING him to upgrade his current version of Windows. And also I realise that if I was in the same situation that I might be a bit peeved to.
But what needs to be understood is that WinNT is an outdated OS now. I think (don't know for sure so nobody quote me on this) that even MS don't provide much support NT version 3.whatever anymore...heck they don't even do an MCSE for any version of NT!
So I guess then this could be one of the reasons why you should upgrade, because if you do it later like in a few years time you will become even more frustrated with other problems that arise and also at the TOTAL lack of support from any company (either software or hardware).
Times change and things change, if it didn't we wouldn't have PCs and we'd all be sitting here with a piece of chalk and slate, the cavemen probably didn't want to upgrade from that either but that's another thread.... |

Another big factor is the actual OS support for data synchronization via USB. I really don't think Windows 98's USB stack was up to the task. |

AFAIK M$ stopped WHQL-certification on Win98 i June last year so companies like SE won't get any support from M$ anyway so why delvelop to it then?
I think SE is doing the right thing to stop developing software for Win98 as there are far better alternatives(W2k, XP). Isn't the WinME driver working? Win98 and WinME is the same crap so the should be compatable? But it's both M$-systems so ya never no.
But it would be really nice with official support for Linux, AmigaOS and so on.
