Whats wrong with the n86? I have heard read or known of any complaints regarding that model. It seems pretty stable. With a good camera

I have a friend who owned it, and it was pretty glitchy. And I knew someone else who did. Maybe it was their luck, but I was horrified how bad they were. Almost N96 bad.

N86 was buggy in the beginning, but it seems the last FW update has sorted most issues out, i dont know about being "N96 bad" as the N96 had a slower CPU and in its early firmwares it seems S60 FP2 was not made to run on an ARM9,and had to be optimized to run on it, after V30 fw the N96 is very stable and fast, not N85 fast, but faster than it was in the beginning. The N86 8MP seems to have suffered from reboots and freezes, NOT sluggish speeds like N96.
Anyway i would highly recommend the N86 8MP as it seems to have a lot more going for it compared to a "dumbphone" like W995,and the older S60 FP1, E71. Im busy listening to a AAS podcast and one of the subjects is the N86, and it seems NOKIA arent quite done adding and updating features and apps in the N86, and theres a V31 FW already on its way. It seems to be the best Non-touch screen phone this year.

I'm damn sure you can change the reminder sound with a2 uploader if you're returning the phone only for that reason? or if there are any other reason like camera you can go straight away to n86. But apart from that this is the best mobile, very stable one ever from SE except camera.

WOW! Thanks very much for your help guys.

@ idumbakumar - The reminder sound issue is one reason and the other is that when i'm on a call, the speaker crackles really badly, even if i turn down the volume...if these two issues can be dealt with then i think i'm onto a winner here.

@ GUCCI.011 - Unfortunately I need to stick with orange network and they don't have an N86.

@ shreyans - Wife already has it mate..its a good phone, but if i'm gonna go onto a fresh 2yr contract, then i want a phone that is new make.

Blackberry then. Look at the BB 8900 Curve, and Bold 9700. otherwise take E71.

@ Gucci.011 - From your reply, does this mean that the w995 a2 uploader can't solve my two issues?

If those are the only issues and orange doesn't have N86 on contract then you should stick with W995. I'm a very satisfied consumer myself. Return your W995 right now for the faulty speaker (which isn't supposed to crackle at highest volume) to buy some time till idumbakumar tests the calendar alert for you

@ mode - your right mate...if i inform orange within 7 days, they give me up 28 days to return the phone...until then i can play with the settings.

Just to remind people my most important problems i need solving are:-

1. To be able to change ringtones of the phone to custom choice.
2. To be able to change calendar reminder sound to a custom choice.
3. Stop the speaker crackling.

Er, I beleive I can help you with the first one.
Just go to Menu>Settings>Sounds and you'll find the option to change your ringtone there. Frankly, it couldn't be more obvious.

Frankly you have to be a troll to say that you can't have a custom ringtone.

. . . .wow Its his 1st SE. I remember struggling a bit when i got my W800, took some time to figure it out, luckily people were more friendly back then.

If you are happy, take it back and ask for a replacement,i dont know if A2Uploader will solve the issue, but it sounds to me like you'd be better off getting a smartphone.

Quit being such a jerk. Instead of pissing people off, is it so hard to help out a newbie? Don't even try to defend your unconstructive conduct, please.

Okay fine, I'll cut it out. Anyway if the W995 is not good enough cause of the calendar well then just toy with it a bit until you give it up.
