Hard drive replacement doubt |

The jumpered pins are as follows. 1 and 2 enables ssc 3 and 4 enables puis 5 and 6 1.5gb phy. Nothing about 7 and 8. Tried my acronis boot disk. But no hard drive found.

XP disks dont include SATA drivers for installing the OS which is why it wont see your hard drive. You need to create a XP boot disk including drivers for your SATA controller or put the drivers on a floppy and press f6 it the beginning of xp setup to load drivers from a floppy.
Acronis also doesnt support SATA if you created "full mode" restore disks only if you created "safe mode" disks.

How do i create the boot disk? And will i need to download the drivers.

wait a minute. i had some issues trying to install xp on a sata drive. in the bios you need to change something. will let you know later.

look:
SATA Mode is set to [ATA] now. It was in [AHCI] before. This didn't let me install XP before.

I upgrade my hard drive every time I get a new vaio (each year) and I have never had these issues, but I don't recall that I ever had a SATA drive on an XP machine, so sorry about that.
btw, did you see the "Acronis True Image WD Edition" listed on the page you linked to? might be useful to check out?

There is no cmos section showing in my bios, so i cant select anything.

I did see that oo their page and was wondering about it. Weird how there is no drivers listed. I may ask the it girl where i used to work to sort it.

You need the drivers for the SATA controller on your motherboard not your hard drive.

So i need to find out what motherboard i have to locate its drivers.
Thanks for all your help guys, but i think this one is best left for someone else. I dont have another pc at home, so i would need to call at a mates to use his when i need to do something. Will call the IT girl tomorrow
