@laffen: once i was testing a mobile phones seller and asked him about a w300. He told me the phone had a 2mp camera. I asked him again and he said the same. He was so sure about it. So, he could have sold the phone as a 2mp camphone to another customer and the customer would be thinking he/she has got a phone with such a camera.
Imo, that's a basic knowledge he should know.

same here. i want to arrive at the shop equipped with knowledge and fair background of what i want to buy.
that is why i do my homework by researching reviews on the net.
my concern is that not every consumer is LIKE US who would spend time to read reviews.
some consumers are gullible, fickle minded or impulsive.
And when that gullible-fickle minded consumer meets a sales rep who is deficient in product knowledge - then the equation for a regretful purchasing is made. The buyer would end up buying something that he really doesn't like or plan to.
The sales rep should guide a "blind" (from specs and info) customer.
but what if the sales rep is blind too?
then that would cause an accident - the blind guides another blind.

They give me the security knowing that if ever I'm out of job, I can have theirs at any given day with such lack of knowledge. I once asked a sales guy what's special about the W902 as it was touted as the first Cyber-Man hybrid and without any effort to sell the darned device he said it's the same as all Walkman phones. I mean he could at least say it has 5mp camera on board which probably means he's not even aware of that

SE never had a main chain of stores. They should and it should be called Rainbow Phone Fest! Seriously though SE would totally do good with this. Re-releasing some old models might be good with some technological upgrades. |

Sony Shops are dead here. XD Alpha Copy for Nokia and the Apple stores only exist now with 1 or 2 LG stores. |

if SE wants to survive they need to become a new type of company.
new rules, new ways of thinking.
they should hire people who love telecoms and cell phones. people who visit many forums, have had lots of phones and have a decent know how.
Let people from esato become ambassadors and you'll see SE sales increase... even with the poor portfolio they have right now.
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA |

Ignorant sales staff - a fact of life. Not just for SE. Do research, go to the shop, buy phone/accessories without asking questions. Saves you time and aggravation.
I always tell myself, if the sales staff knew MORE than they do, they'll be in a better/non-sales frontline job.
Lack of product knowledge is the par for sales staff, not the exception. The few exceptions just happen to have a real interest in the products.
As for buyers who don't know what they want when they walk into a shop, they usually don't use the features they're ignorant about. And even if they do, the "regrettable purchase" will at least teach them to do research next time. It will also teach them something about human nature -- that people rarely put passion into their day jobs. And about business too -- it's rarely about satisfying the customer, it's all about profitability. And to make profit, a business would spend as little as possible on training its staff and just get attractive-looking jocks instead of knowledgeable geeks with bad teeth.
All well worth the ignorant buyer's money if he learns these lessons.
