Imo, sales represantives and staffs in an concept shop are ambassadors.
Through him/her, can become an interesting brand to a possible buyer/customer
The sad thing i have observed (here in my country) is that sales staffs rarely know much about products
sometimes i go to shops to test them. here is what i found out (on different occasions):
* I asked: How is the camera of T700? is it better than my past phone K750?
Staff reply: But of course sir. Because T700 is 3mp and k750 is a very old model with 2mp..
* A lady came in and inquired: This k800 phone, does it have radio?
Staff answered: None ma'am. Because it is a Cybershot model and not a walkman.
* A guy asked: Is the c905 video dvd quality?
Staff: Am not sure sir if its dvd but nevertheless video recording is super clear because it is 8 megapixel already..
* I asked: What is the max memory card that c510 can handle?
Staff: "Up to 2gb sir! And as such, the c510 is not just a camera phone, but also a music player."
I took out the m2 inside my c510. She was surprised upon seeing i have an 8gb m2 in my c510
* Do you have the c901 greenheart?
Staff: There is no green color of c901 sir. Only black, peach and gray.
These are some of the ambassadors that has right now.
Not knowledgeable enough imo..
What is the situation in your country?
Do you also have any shameful staff reply experiences like mine?

Jesus thats poor I can imagine that though. I am not aware of what their staff are like here but perhaps someone on here will know. Sounds as bad as Orange retail staff or Phones4U staff. They are so poorly trained its criminal. For instance I have known things that I CAN do on Orange but staff in their shops just say UH NO YOU CANT DO THAT. Or try asking female staff about a 3G. I once asked Orange retail to upgrade my old pay and go sim to a 3G one. They said WHAT FOR? I could not believe it. I said for faster internet they said OH YOU CAN DO THAT ON A 2G SIM totally useless. But I have not seen a Sony Ericsson store where I live.

@crossmatched
That made me laugh.
There should be a wall of shame thread of ridiculous answers. I don't think SE will be too pleased if they found this out.

mostly shop staffs are basic knowledge about each product but in-case of your is quite not well trained enough.
shop staffs they job is try to persuade customers to buy new one usually quite not clear answers but for ambassadors they mostly give info about each product with cleared answer just imo....

well... a w705 i had. when applying slight pressure to the screen it sent 'ripples' through it... took it in for an exchange. one of the assistants said to the person helping me. "have you checked GSMArena? Maybe its a feature" lmao i thought i was hearing things!
i try not to be so technical. most times customers dont understand a thing im saying
so i just do the typica to most , " yeah this is better cam cos its 8mp and that one is 5mp"
yes we all know thats utter BS! lol

SE is much more used here and for a while more the Nokia phones! So when I go into a shop while I still outsmart the damn salespersons they know at least what I'm talking about when explaining why this certain phone would be good to my father. And sometimes not. One guy asked me what do you mean themes? and surprisingly he has been using Samsung's too long. XD |

I think most staff are trained to sell but they are not product trained

true mate.
it is a sad fact.
being the ambassadors, sales staff should be knowledgeable enough to provide basic info on handsets.

Its bad really. Its the same about me working in the hotel where I work. I can sell a room but I also have to know what our company product actually is. Or any sort of job really you should know the company product. Makes sense

You can't expect every employee to know everything about all products. But some basic knowlede is something we should expect.
On the other hand. You, as the consumer should do the investigation before going to the store. Some of the largest retail stores in my country are always pushing Sony DSLR cameras and never Canon or Nikon. Not because Sony give most value for the money, but because the best selling store clerks have the chance to win a Sony camera at the end of each month.
I always do my investigation and read reviews on the Internet before buying stuff over a certain value. |
