Why do Macs have better security & makes it harder to hack them?

there is nothing inherently better or more secure in the Mac OS. the only reason why there are hardly any viruses for the Mac is a simple case of economics. hackers and virus writers would rather spend their time writing code which targets 90% of the market rather than a measly 8%. that's really all there is to it.

for example, you may hit 1000 pc's and yet only get fruitful results from let's say 5 of them. if the success rate is that low, then you would be better off going for the larger population.

i am not in any way a virus writer writer or hacker. but i used to be a software developer, and it is a similar argument in that field as well: generally more fruits for your labor and investment with pc's over macs.

IE8, Safari and Firefox all fell victim to hackers on day one of the annual Pwn2Own contest, while Google's Chrome survived.

So, how is Microsoft's anti-virus doing, anyone using it?

I'm wondering how good is it going to be considering they've seen quite a fair of viruses.

Are you sure you dont have a virus? Just because AVG hasnt found any doesnt mean you dont have viruses.
I upgraded from AVG free to Kaspersky. As soon as it was live Kaspersky found viruses on my PC that AVG hadnt found.

@JC exactly the same, AVG IMO is shit, I pay for Kaspersky and it keeps me right up to date, and has the best reviews in comparisons of all AV's

I originally used NIS since 2003 but for the last 2 years all our computers are now running AVG Free. I've found that both products noticably slow down our computers. Sometimes even pausing them for a few seconds.
I'm with Barclays and have just been reading their free Kaspersky Internet Security offer for PC's and also Mobile phones. Soon as my laptop is charged again and I get some free time I'm gonna give it a try I think.
I tried sniffing coke once but didnt like it. The bubbles kept going up my nose

Don't know mate it doesn't say. AFAIK it's WM phones and maybe Symbian that can get virus's so its probably for those.

Hello All,

I am using Symantec from 2.5 years and also AVG free. I did find that Symantec does make the PC slow. But if you get the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition suite it should be a better option compared to AVG Free.
