Fully understandable, I left SE long ago with the nokia N95. There are so many better options out there for a much better price.

Very true and hard for SE users to find a phone from other manufacturers with style and build quality like SE does. But SE is falling behind in making phones with big screens and AT&T 3G. Xperia might be good for many but most it's way too expensive and thick and cheaply built plastic buttons in the front.

Until SE comes up with something great, most who need large screen phones have to find an alternative. I think 5800 looks like the best bargain out there if iPhone doesn't do it all for you.

I think phones used to be special because they had a unique/cool design (by sony) and at the same time always introduced a new technology plus they all had a good baterry life (or at least average). Their build-quality wasn´t good (don´t get me started about the joysticks), it lacked a couple of features (nokia was more complete) but in the end the combination design/features/ui was really special and made people come back for more. Nowadays... the design isn´t as good anymore, they keep redoing the same thing.. tech is way behind and UI is outdated. At the same time all the flaws are still there like bad built-quality and bad feature/price ratio.
IMO you should get an iphone 3G. I say that because in terms of platform the iPhone OS is really gaining momentum. Many apps coming out everyday and getting better and better. A smartphone is all about the programs you can run with it and apple is growing more than the others in this department. You could wait for the next iphone version which will probably have more advanced hardware and software but if you need a phone now, get an iphone.

remember, there is a lot of people who not wants BIG phones (big screen make the phone of course bigger). think w902, c902, t650, g705 is some examples that SE still leading the way in stylish, classic phones with good build quality.

personally i looking for quite small/thin phones, if i want BIG screen to watch videos on, i use my 17" laptop with subwoofer sound , (think its a waste of time to watch videos on cellphones, its hardly any fun to sit and look at a movie on a 2.6" screen)
cheers

Probably even less fun on your C902 with it's 2.2" display.

I watch video podcasts downloaded from iTunes on my P990i (2.7" screen) and feel that this is good enough. Perfect for killing time when you're waiting for the bus, airplane, etc.

yes, of course, its so boring to watch videos on my c902. (i just do it when i want to check something). its 2.0" by the way

but honestly, even on my girlfriend Iphone 3G its horrible. (whats the point to sit 30 cm from the screen just to see the damn movie, the sound is also horrible, (well, with headphones it gets better, but still ?

njaa, i have never understand big screens, big phones. i send sms/mms, i snap some pics, i listen to radio/music and i call people with my cellphone, (sometimes i browse after some addresses on internet, but thats it)

Plankgatan, you're simple, and that's fine. If you want a simple, small phone then your'e right - no reason not to look at SE's (well aside from the questionable build quality and firmware issues, but it's easy to pin the same complaints on other brands).

The problem for SE is that not everyone is like you - there's a significant market out there for more multimedia-savvy, web-connected smartphones as championed by the likes of the iPhone and all its imitators - and the sad truth for SE is that despite pioneering that sector with the P800 et al years ago, right now it has nothing worthwhile in that bracket at all, and only the Idou on the dim and distant horizon. All of that adds up to a LOT of lost revenue for SE, which may well be a problem even for you.

Say that to SE and the new "Video on the go phone" W995 with 2.6" screen

Well, I agree with you, phone screens are too tiny to watch movies even the 3.5" on the iphone.

The best phone for watching videos is the iphone, period. It´s supposed to be an ipod too so it has great screen, good software and itunes too. The other phones usually have a ´media player´ that doesn´t match apple´s ipod/itunes combo and even the ones with a good screen look pale compared to the iphone´s screen on a sunny day.
