Mr Myagi - I can't believe that as someone who works for O2 you're not more ashamed of owning the K850i. It's become a running joke, every time a customer brings one in now, I can pretty much guess the top three faults they've got with it before they even tell me.
Its gotten to the point where our repair centre are just replacing them straight away rather than repairing them, they've become beyond a joke now really.
My opinions on this forum are that of my own and not of the company I work for. |

@Mr Miyagi
I'm in a similar situation to you. My K850i has only recently developed a serious problem, namely, the Xenon flash seems to discharge very bright and with a noisy 'crack' and the flash unit is beginning to discolour and it looks smokey inside. Apart from this the phone has served me really well and I was lucky to get a 'good' unit.
However, its now 16 months old and I think I am going for a white C905 which I will completely debrand and update with the new fw which comes out next month. Then it will have the new features that are available on the latest SE phones such as Chat view and some other goodness for the camera.
Any phones announced soon won't be available for a few months yet and I'm not prepared to wait that long but yes the K850i has run its course.

Im in the same situation as you.
Im on my 2nd k850i now. my first one actually just failed after a year and 2 days of using. actually, the phone works fine, but the touch sensative keys are broken. I flashed the phone, master reset, everything. you can read about my problem in the technical section since its to long to list here. I also had the BROD, but i took care of that. Both of my K850i suffer from random resets. but its ussualy quick anyways.
The best thing about the phone is that it is always quick and reliable when I need it. My brother is a nokia fan, and updates his phones constantly, but he always has problems with them crashing. He just got a new E71 (which is a great phone with amazing build quality) and I froze in my hand in under a minute. Plus ive never been fond of S60. His N73 was the definition of fail. After a year, I dont think anything worked anymore. Speaker, microphone and certain keys failed. The thing ran horribly slow and it crashed multiple times daily. Pictures came out extremely discolored (everything had a very very strong blue tint)
Personally, this is probably in my top 3 favorite phones that ive owned (ive used only SE since the beginning days of the t68) only 2nd to my old and now broken p800. I will have a hard time to giving up this phone, However, I feel its just about time for an upgrade in specs (Wifi, GPS).
Im just hoping at MWC they can release a true successor to the k850i... something along the lines of a candybar c905. |

Thats it! An 8mp candybar would go down well right now. The K850i was unfortunate in it being one of the 1st A200 phones so it suffered from all the teething problems of the new OS. Its also one of the longest phones I have had in continuous use and I have had none of the problems most others have had.
From what I have learned there won't be any Cyber-shot phones announced soon that will have a spec as high as the C905. I just hope I am lucky enough get another good unit and the extra WiFi and stuff makes it a worthy upgrade.
No Wi Fi enabled candy bars yet is there?

Why does everybody want a candybar C905? What's wrong with sliders?
Anyway, I don't think it'll come either. Maybe later this year, but as a mid-range cybershot or a W902 successor or something. |

Its just people's preferences I guess. No wobbly sliders on a candybar either.

I join the club of the K850 fans, i m using an iPhone 3G but i still have my K850 as it is the best phone i ever had .
With the K850 i have the same feeling i had before with the K750 and the T610, i just love it
Too bad there is no a "real successor" SE should make a K850 with better firmware and Wifi, that would be perfect

Hey all
sorry for the late replies.
Nightblade its good to know then that it is not the end of cyber shot phones.
@ Larry k850 is the only ever s.e phone i have been so fond about. Yes those
3 softkeys I will miss too. When i had my temp c702 I think it was called, i kept going to press the screen, forgetting its not touch sensitive. I have re-installed the firmware on the phone today thanks to my friend and fingers crossed, i am going to see what happens now. Its a bit like sitting in intensive care, after your patient has had a transplant, your monitoring the condition of the patient to see if the problem re-occurs. ( i know you guys are thinking i am crazy) but thats how i see this phone. Its great .
@ Daedalus this phone is a piece of beauty mate to be honest with you. I know its had issues etc, and every company has had returns of this handset. But its the k850i factor that it has, that makes it so special and great to use.
@Goldenface I am determined to use this phone throughout its 2 year warranty. I know I have an obsession with this phone. I admit it lol. Are they going to be doing a white c905? never knew that.
@ Sutitan the thing about this phone is that it has all the features I need, great camera, 5MP is good enough, great flash, easy navigation and I love the feel of he buttons when i press them.
and candybar c905 would be amazing |

nooo!!! don't give up on ure k850i
Kiddin, Yea with the ammount of problems you're having, it's not worth keeping it anymore i don't think....given that you can't find a proper fix for it
but i can understand hw frustrating it is for u. I bought one of the original '07 ones second hand, had it for a few months nw and i'm still a happy camper atm, hasn't crashed once yet. Rite now I can't really say there's a phone i'd rather have than this, i prefer this to my n82, and the c902 is missing a xenon flash, and the c905 is questionably problematic and waaay out of my price range atm. So for me i'd like to keep the phone until it inevitably fails on me, (which cud b soon) when that time comes i won't be pleased at all, and will probably be confused as to what to buy as well

Really? I can't stand it to be honest, always looked weird from day one, its one of the least reliable phones I've seen in almost 7 years of selling them, and it's overpriced and out dated, but thats just my opinion...
