Is it time to give up on k850? |

Hi all
Ever since I left my N73 and Nokia I have loved my K850. Its been such a good phone. For a long part of a while I never had any problems. Yes I did get the occasional re-start etc, but that never bothered me.
However then after a while recently problems started on my phone, such as operation error, when trying to download items from the s.e wap site. This was after my phone did not want to start up, all i had was a keypad light. So I did was s.e told me to do. Re-install latest software which I did.
It was fine my phone, then went crashing again so i called up s.e and sent my phone back. They sent me a unbranded replacement with latest software.
Great I thought, no branding Phone was much quicker I noticed, very nice improvement I thought. Then after a few days I got the re-starts again, again I ignored it, one restart a day is not bad. I think its good for the phone.
Anyway a few days ago. I was on the phone talking to a friend. All of a sudden phone cuts out. Keypad is lit only and the blue ring of death. I thought oh no, whats happening to my phone
I went on panick mode, as my phone is important to me, and my old Nokia 8310, had no charger, so i had no phone. Could not update it, again on s.e update service, as I use a Mac (s.e don't seem to like Mac's). I rushed to my friends house in the morning, who has a laptop. I re-installed the software and it brought my phone to life again.
I was so happy. However ever since that update, I have noticed my phone sometimes switches itself off now. Without me knowing. It never switched off in my life. Re-start = Yes, Switch off - No.
I thought thats strange. I have been monitoring this, for a day now. 3 times its switched off. I had to switch it on again. Now i am .
My friend told me to do a master reset, which I have done, however while installing applications from s.e wap site. The phone re-started on me again.
If I can get through the next few days without the phone switching off (but do not mind the re-start) I think my phone might be saved.
But if not..... then i really don't want to send this phone off to s.e. I just don't see my self parting with this phone, as I do like it, the build quality, the features. It does what i want it to do.
But if i was to part it, then I see no new phone that I can see I will like or come close to liking apart from my S.E k850i.
I don't want symbian phones, as half the stuff on the symbian phones i never use. I only want to stay with S.E.
My requirements for a phone is that its a candybar (k850i shape), must have xeon flash, and be 5MP for camera, however I can possibly consider a 3.2 MP, wifi would be a bonus, buttons should be good and steady and easy to use like the k850i, I love the k850i dpad, so prefer a dpad too. Must have 3G/HSDPA and basically all features that I have on my K850i, plus anything else is a bonus.
But what can I do everyone? I would appreciate advice on this, for my current handset and a possible sucessor phone to my K850i.

Well, if I were you, I'd have got another phone a long time ago.
I suggest either the C905 or waiting till the C901 and the C903 get released (ie. in about 3-4 months).
There's also the W902 and the C902, if you aren't bothered by the lack of a xenon flash.
Seriously, you should put an end to your problems and no, I don't mean suicide.

I know NightBlade. But I have never felt such an attachment with a s.e phone in my life. I even want to keep it and see it through its 2 year warranty though. I guess I am the one of the only few remaining people who believe in keeping the spirit of the k850 alive. The C905 is a good phone, but people are having problems with the ear piece/speaker. Plus when i tested it, i found that you don't have much space when you are writing a sms on that phone, i felt your fingers easily touched the inside of the keypad, the side part too much. Not that I have fat fingers. My fingers are normal sized.
C901 seems nice but looks a bit like the Nokia the other one is a slider.

well mr Miyagi (i love this name) ....you should wait for filippa it will be a improved version of the k850/c902.....or i know you don't need a symbian phone and stick to SE but you can consider the 'N82 black' it haves great build quality, better camera, better xenon, better games, vga video recording, wifi,Not such fingerprint mangnet ,and it's as fast as the k850 .

Thank you Luci. Flippa does now seem to have a 3G vid call camera at the front. not that i see it on the spy pics. It does look good in black. My upgrade date when I can get a free new phone on a contract is in April. Do you think they will have this phone by then, available to the world? |

Well, there will be other "good" cameraphones announced "soon", but I doubt they'll have xenon flashes, since they won't be Cyber-shots.
Not allowed to say anything more.

Why can't they have Xeon standard in all s.e non walkman phones. I can't ever seem to go back to a led flash phone, after having Xeon flash. Why s.e why? if you are a s.e employee reading this. PLease keep Xeon flash and make more of these type of phones. |

I didn't say that there won't be any more Cyber-shots. I just said that there will be other phones with good cams announced at MWC, in addition to the C901 and C903.

@Mr Miyagi
I know exactly what you mean about the K850i , I'm so attached to mine for some crazy reason even though I have the restart problems and the dedicated camera button seems to have stopped working since it went in for repair.
I cant see another SE handset at present to rush out and buy that would make me feel less than cheated at giving up my annoyingly tempremental but strangely addictive K850i. |
