File Associate - Open files differently |

OK tried it on my P1i - works well.
Tested with speadsheet, change to D2G and works well - shows correct icon and opens .xls file in D2GSheet.
PDF files open in PDF + Standard as I changed them to.
Music files will not open with Walkman3 player although the icon is shown next to the filename - does show icon and open app if related to LCG Jukebox...

@arvinlad, many thanks for your feedback!
Tested with speadsheet, change to D2G and works well - shows correct icon and opens .xls file in D2GSheet. PDF files open in PDF + Standard as I changed them to. Fine, so changing the XLS and PDF associations work as expected. Expected is that when you select the correct data type for a file extension and you assign a true viewer to it, then clicking on a file will make the viewer to display the file.
It is very important to realize what a true viewer is. It is an application which is programmed to accept a file name (passed from a file manager) and then display it. An application that can only display files chosen from its own file selector is not a true viewer (like X-plore, FoxIt, LCG Jukebox, PowerMP3, and unfortunately many more).
Music files will not open with Walkman3 player although the icon is shown next to the filename - does show icon and open app if related to LCG Jukebox... It's not completely clear what you mean here, please describe the details.

had some .SWF files, still the fring icon (i have fring installed) and when i accesss it, still no program to open. If the flash type (.swf extension) is assigned to fring, but fring does not display a flash file when clicking on it, then only the programmers of fring can help you. However, you can display local flash files the following way:
- install the Opera Flash Plug-in;
- in File Associate assign the Flash type to Generic viewer;
- click on a local flash file from a file manager and it will be displayed by the Web application. i managed to associate the swf file with the mod by swmail. but when i open the swf file, it just open the app and i have to look for the file manually. so, this isnt worth at all. it's not your fault.

you should associate flash files with the generic viewer, like Zed said, and it will open on web...thatīs the only way to do it

Exactly as ares says. By the way, you can't associate a file type with a "mod", only with an application...
One more thing. File Associate 1.10 will come soon, to overcome the "false expire" problem experienced on some phones (reported above in this thread). This is a great occasion to include any additional tweaks in the application that users request. So, please test around and provide meaningful feedback!

It might be a more advanced idea to help further developing the program than to use it illegally.

I associated the 'sound files' with the Walkman3 hacked programme...
All the mp3 files show a little icon next to them in SMP file manger - nice
How cool is this???
Nice job CPS...
Select a music file from from file section of SMP
'Information' box pops up with red warning triangle saying 'Not supported' option soft key 'continue'
Press 'continue' soft key message 'dump file created' - Application closed box appears with message:
Application - MMFControllerProxyServer33716780
Reason code - E32USER-CBase
Reason Number - 66
Press 'continue' softkey...
- Application closed box appears with message:
Application - WALKMAN
Reason code - E32USER-CBase
Reason Number - 66
Press 'continue' softkey...
and back to file manger screen...

@arvinlad: You assigned the wrong application to your MP3 files. WALKMAN is not a true viewer, because it can only play files chosen from its own file selector, but can not play files passed from a file manager. Therefore you get the error messages. The true viewer for MP3 files is called WALKMAN Viewer, so you need to associate that one.
trial expired is all i keep getting As already mentioned in this thread, a new version of FA is on the way to fix the "false expire" issue experienced on a fraction of phones. You just need to wait one day or two.

Aaahhh... I see... With Walkman app you need to get it to search the phone for files and select from that list!
Is there a 'WALKMAN viewer'? - I really like having the little icons next to my mp3 files - sad I know but that's the way we phone geeks are
Thanks...

With Walkman app you need to get it to search the phone for files and select from that list! Yes, exactly. There are many apps that look like viewers but they are not. An example is X-plore, which can nicely display RAR and binary files, but only from within itself, and not from the "external world".
Is there a 'WALKMAN viewer'? Yes, on W950 and W960. However, it is apparently not contained in the currently available installable "ports" of Walkman.
I really like having the little icons next to my mp3 files The Walkman viewer has a musical note icon, not the one you like. So, in addition to including the viewer in the installable Walkman "port", you also need that the app icon is replaced.

Presumably since the system has been hacked we could potentially find the 'music' icon and replace it with a icon as standard
