Nokia's N-series touchscreen device. The low end 5800 XM is just a sign of things to come.

OK Thanks, I am having to cast my net a bit wider than just now I am NOT convinced about the X1 (too much hype no real substance) and UIQ is finished so what choice do I get from now?

well, hang on for a while and you'll probably see a se s60 handset at some point. That would appeal to me.

My N85 is superb, the K850 is in a drawer! N96 never appealed as size and screen were all wrong but N85 is a fantastic bit of kit!

I think you are right, but if I am going to go S60 5th Then I might as well go Nokia, Their (Non Slider) build quality is much better than and their sync software is light years ahead of slow sad offering, and they seem to be able to deliver a product on time and at sensible prices.

The 5800 seems to offer me most of what I need, good syncing ability for contacts calendar notes task etc, touch screen, proper handwriting recognition, a proper headphone socket! USB charging and sync! plenty of storage, plenty of applications if I need them and a good interface, plus the Nokia Music Store if I want it

I am an audio book & Music on the move addict! and use my W960 for pretty much ALL my music listening now, I actually haven't used my home system since I don't know when.

Pity have had to give up on UIQ and throw themselves on WM, but lets face it they were never any good at writing SW anyway even the much trumpted "panels" of the X1 slow it down

I have been preaching that for over three years now that needs to hire someone who is really good at SW/FW stuff. We will see where the WM bandwagon gets SE.

Dare I suggest nowhere?

Sony Ericsson have been hemorrhaging cash at an alarming rate and I suspect that Sony sent out a warning that unless things improve they are pulling the plug to concentrate on the games market.

Even the incompetents currently in charge at knew HTC build good HW and that WM was tried and tested so they cobbled together a "strategy" SIC called the X1.

But there is no real commitment to WM when asked, the so called X1 product manager would not commit to WM, neither would 's joke "marketing" person La La Leigh, so why should anyone believe that are suddenly a WM house? not me for certain and the networks already wary of thanks to their expert handling of the P990 debacle must be wondering what their high end products division is playing at?

At first I was really keen on the X1 but as time went by even managed to screw up the launch, and the spy/ preview clips showed that the "Software Engineers" SIC at had managed to work their "special magic" by creating those "panels" that seem to managed to cause the device to stutter and falter, niice user experience guys! NOT .
I found I was looking at the kings new clothes lots of hype about what? a slightly more glitzy and considerably more expensive HTC touch pro!

I just want to know when I can get my hands on the 5800 Tube in the UK it seems to have been launched on 2nd Oct but I cant find anything relating to UK availability anywhere!

I tried the X1 yesterday and I will not be buying one. WM is old its up for replacement I am sure it works OK but really need something special if they are to continue to challenge Nokia I am afraid.
At least they are pushing ahead seem to be going backwards at present.

My advice to Sony Ericsson hire some top flight SW Engineers and try to regain your edge or forget it.
