Thanks alot guys, yer it's really not very easy and even if I don't like this, touch I'm going to stick at it because I need to have a steady job, and in 3 months they upp my pay too so it's not all bad.
Aparently £5.70 an hour isn't *too* bad, so I'm not complaining
Ipswich for me is half way between me and London, so it's around 55 miles by car.
I was very suprised that they offered me a full time job considering I go away for 3 weeks, around Nov 15th to December 6th.
So I work there for 1 month, then take almost a month off, but he said it's not a problem at all, just that I really need to prove myself for this 1st month and show that I want this job.
Thing that I'm really pleased with was, he said "Me and dean had a talk and we both decided after your interview on tuesday that we were going to give you a job, we just needed time to work out whether it would be full time or part".
I can't wait to start playing with all the sat navs, I think he thought I was a bit strange when I said I love to just mess about with sat navs and other gadgets in my spare time lol.
I was going to mention how just last night I updated my f/w and got some usa maps for my sat nav...but I stopped before I mentioned the fact I downloaded them and then edited the registry files lmao.
My job will be to sell Garmin, Tom Tom, Navman, LG and Sony Satnavs, I will also have to sell In car Entertainment systems (hense the title ICT) such as dvd players and in car computers, any job where I get to talk to others about sat nav and computer features sounds good to me.
The first few days I will be nervous as I will be starting in 1 store for a few days, then starting all over again in another store, before being transferred back again to my local store, so it's like starting the same job twice.
I guarantee I will hate the first few weeks, I've always had really really bad experience with work placements etc, but I'm hoping that I can stick it out and work for once in my life.
One thing that I am annoyed about....How comes I get the whole year off, then I go on holiday and work full time just as Gears 2 and fable 2 come out
Sucks

Well done mate. Don't lose track of the service job though, that's not a job, it could be the full career stuff. I've been with the Ministry of Defence for 42 years and thinking of making it a career. Not quite make the mind up yet!
By the way, do you get any discounts on Garmin stuff? lol

lol apparently I do, but like other places, I have to wait a certain period of time before I get the discount.
But once I do, I'm more then happy to share the love

Thanks mate
Went to my last job centre meeting today, he had all the forms ready to send me to the YMCA, but was really please that I needed to sign off.
Apparently because I didn't miss a single meeting in 6 months he said, I get a £100 back to work grant next week, as well as 1 weeks pay, so should be getting £145.50 for going back to work which isn't bad.
I was excited yesterday, now I'm getting a bit nervous lol.

Day one over and done with, got there at 9.30 and worked till 5.30, tomorrow he said I start on my regular times, so 9am till 5.15pm
But like an idiot, I wanted to make a good impression so offered to be there for 8.30am to help open the store, which I'm sure you probably don't get paid for either, but it's all for a good cause I suppose.
Sold 2 sat navs with some help, some car paint, a window wiper blade, 2 exhaust end bits (shiney mettle end bits), umm, some L plates and a few other things.
Well not sold, people asked me, I showed where they were and offered as much info as I could on my 1st day then showed them where to pay etc.
Apparently the Garmin man wants to speak to me before the Tomtom man next week lol, so he's comming down to our store to spend friday with me, then I spend mon-thur next week in norwich with the garmin and tomtom reps learning everything there is to know about their product range which apparently is a lot and my manager said it will be a tough week.
The bit that bothers me is I have to be at the Nowich store for 9am, it's an hour train journey from my house and then a 30min walk once I get there, so I have to catch the 7am train, which means getting up around 6am lol, not fun!
I have no idea where halfords is either, I'm going to have to try and use my ipod touch, sat nav and print some instructions off, but hopefully it isn't raining next week.
So ye, I actually enjoyed today, best part was setting up the sat navs in the cars for people, nice and easy
You'd be suprised how little people know about satnav, this 1 lady said, I don't want it to do anything apart from get me from A-B, so I'll take that one....that was easy enough
Wouldn't say I'm looking forward to tomorrow, but I certainly don't mind doing it at the moment.
Will probably feel different next week because of the early mornings and traveling, working in a new store with new people again and having meetings with company reps......but it's all for a good cause and like my managers said, it's going to be around 4 weeks of cramming info but they plan for me to join them in a managers role next year so they want to train me up as early and quickly as possible, so that's great!
Quite pleased, my first ever day at work.
Still trying to get my head around 8.30am till 5.15 5 days a week lol
Oh ye, lunch times are a pain, I get 45mins and that's it, from 8.30am till 5.15pm...just 45mins, takes me 10mins to walk home.
So I literally got home, spent 10-15mins eating then straight back out again. Would have liked an hour really.

Good stuff!
Yeah, i don't know how some companies get away with short-changing people on their lunch hours.
Do you not get a mid-morning / mid - afternoon break?
