If anyone goes into a phone shop and asks to 'play' with a phone, I would expect most salespeople to tell them to get on their bike...
If you are genuinely interested, rather than curious about it with no interest in purchasing it, then fair enough, if not then you're just being a time waster, something we really can do without when we've got other things to do. You have to remember, if you 'play' with it, it's instantly become non-pristine, and we have to try and convince a member of the public to buy that phone unsealed and partially used.
It's not a toy, it's something someone else has to buy.

It is a toy and it's an expensive toy, and if I'm going to buy one I expect to have the right to test drive it. If you can't spare one of each phone model to be used as a store demo, to be sold at a 10-15% discount when all the non-demo models have been sold, then you aren't running your business very efficiently. It's just a form of advertising. You spend money on advertising but don't expect that every person who sees the ad will buy a phone - you just put it out there and see what you catch. Having demo models available is just like that. For ever 10 people who look at the phone one will buy it who would otherwise have walked away unsure.
IMHO it's a small thing to ask and ought to be factored into your business costs.
3 in australia have working models of most of their range on permanent display in all their stores.

We have a range of demo phones that we keep upstairs for the most popular models, but not all.
How would you like it, if you bought a phone with the seal broken and I told you that your brand new SE X1 or whatever that you've been waiting almost a year for, got yourself all excited about and you want it to be pristine new, had been played with by some really gross disgusting guy with hands covered in grease and filth who looked like he'd make a hobo look presentable to the Queen? Would you say "eeew, take it back, get me another one?" or would you make do when I tell you it's the last one we have?

It's only one phone per model that needs to be "unsealed". And if they don't try to jerk me off and are honest right up front that the phone is a demo model, the last one in stock and carries a 10% discount, I'd be more than happy to buy it (after thoroughly checking it out of course).

I noticed in CPW they sometimes have demo models hanging around the sales assistants necks though it seems rare. I dont see why they cant spare each model in stores range to have a demos like O2 do in some stores now. I know how i would feel if i had a none pristine phone used by someone. It happened to me when i bought a phone from CPW once. The box seemed fine but when i got it home there were finger prints all over it and it had photos on it taken in store. Very annoying i took it back and got a NEW one. But store brochures like Orange for instance say COME IN STORE AND ASK A PHONE TRAINER FOR A DEMO. I still think customers should be able to try things out. You would not walk into Currys and not be able to listen to a stereo you wish to purchase or digital cameras behind the counter you can play with them. |

yep, the key point is if they are selling you a demo'd phone that they are up front about it. Then you have an opportunity to negotiate a better price. So what the store loses $20 on one phone from each model they sell? The margins aren't that low. Besides if they actually cleaned the phone and deleted the images etc they could actually sell it as new and no one would know (not that I'm justifying that, but what you don't know doesn't hurt you - provided it works properly). Just seems lazy to me.
I'm in business and I give people discounts for all sorts of things. It's called encouraging return custom.

Customers prefer to try before they buy it's a fact,
I know here in Brum theres litrally that many phoneshops crawling at your feet ( I don't know how they survive tbh )
but to gain a sale it's often wise to show a demo to customer,
cos some phones aren't availbale or have been taken away,
it's prob quite harder for sales rep within phoneshops,
that why there trained on products to help customers,
although customers quite often research phones functions so just leaves the contracts to sort out at the end of of it
if I ever get a job in a phoneshop I think it's gunnabe some hella experience (Jewellery is such a easy thing to sell) phones god help me

I've worked as a computer tech, in retail, phone support, repairs and now for myself as a repairer/installer. I reckon a phone shop would be a breeze compared to some of the odd things people ask me to do for them.

Actually i find still i generally know more than the shop staff they seem to be poorly trained in many shops. So many times i go into a shop and ask for something get a blank look and they walk off . Though today i had another play with an iphone in O2 store just for the hell of it. I was connecting it to You Tube. Worked very well even though the coverage said Edge. But god the camera does wobble and is so poor. |

Well i hate contracts. Never again. Im happy enough with O2 pay and go. I was thinking of buying the iphone on pay and go when its out but not sure anymore. Im either going for the N82 or C902 on O2. As for Orange if they have Phone Trainers they should be good at training you. Good luck. The Futures Bright The Futures Miss UK.

Ive got a interview with 02 this afternoon,
I don't know about this one tbh cos they want me to travel to Bury for training, and work sundays
0range are more up my street but still lets see what happens,
thinking of questions to ask 02 is hard I have'nt really much to ask them as there description says it all however im gunna play dumb and ask about demo phones instore in stuff as I think having these is a good selling point
ive got about 8 to ask anyway,
with 0range I asked about 5 and next thing I knew im invited to a assement on the 23rd at a hotel in brum !
if im sucessful in either of these jobs it's gonnabe hard to not look at phones
