I use then sometimes when I carry them with me, but mostly I talk on speaker and don't have any difficulties with sound loudness and volume.

Definitely the C902 has the best sound quality among all these phones !

Really? Are you sure? Please tell us more! Have you heard them?

Yes I've had them all except the P1i but I have the G900.
The most clearer, louder sound is really the C902 (I'm talking about the internal speaker not the loudspeaker)

Well as I know we are talking about the speaker you use when talking. For P1 and G900 they are pretty the same imo. And about loudspeaker, G900 should be louder than C902...

... So, given that P1 may sound like G900, how does the G900 sound differ from the C902 or the W890?

I was not surprised initially, when you said the C902 sounded better than the W890, since it appears to be a bigger phone. But when I was in a store today and compared dummies of the two, I was totally surprised that they are virtually identical in dimensions. It's amazing, when you hold one in one hand and the other in the other, the C902 appears significantly bigger, but when you put them together, they are the same size.

Does the W890 sound thinner/more metallic, because of its case, you think?

Both my w890i's were below average on quality, very tinny at higher volume. My C902 has been depatched today for £169 (thanks to ebay for the 15% discount!) so can comment on sound quality when I have it!

I forget which site it was but someone in a review i read said the C902 call sound was muddy. I dont know myself but its just what i read. Like what the W580i is very muddy sounding muffled.

I can't wait for a 100% subjective comparative review ...

I googled and found it at mobileburn (http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Page=2&Id=4887):

"The Sony Ericsson C902i has average call quality, with voices sounding slightly muddy, yet still easy to understand. Call audio volume was plenty good enough, though the volume buttons are oddly placed at the bottom of the phone, rather than by the earpiece. "

Look at the pictures at that page. I actually think that's not a bad place for the volume buttons...

Well this all depends on the acoustic (sound) drivers that phone uses... They are controling the loudness and quality of the sound produced through the phone's speaker.

I also find that that the earspeaker in W980 is a bit muffled and soft, not loud and clear like the one on W960.

From what I understand, they measure the loudness of the external speaker when ringing or using it as a speakerphone. So that's only half the story.. ;-(

Right then, C902 arrived today and compared to my previous w890i the volume is not as loud (the w890i seemed to go stupidly loud!) but the quality is much better, no crackles and seems very clear.

Thanks for that info! So are you saying that even if your C902 is less loud, it makes it easier to understand the other caller because it's clearer? I wouldn't want 'better' but 'not loud enough'...
