I'm about to get a new SE phone. I spend like 1000 minutes per month talking, so I need good quality sound during calls, and I can pretty much choose any phone to go with my renewed contract.

I'm currently using the M600i, which has appalling sound quality during phone calls. Before that, the V800, which was also bad, and the Z600, which was quite nice.

So the question I'm asking is: which current phone has the best sound quality during calls? I'm not interested in the quality of headphone or external speaker sound...

I'm currently considering W890, W980, C902, and P1i, but open to alternatives...

I'm also eyeing the Samsung Soul, but there are many complaints that that's not loud enough... so I'm sure about that either.

After that, comes texting: which keyboard 'feels' better (apart from the P1i, which is probably as brilliant as my M600i)?

Im very fussy when it comes to call quality. Whilst i cant comment on the other phones i did ask in the C902 discussion thread if the call quality was any good. Someone replied saying it was fine with plenty of volume.

Ive heard one person that said that his w980 had bad quality when calling. But his phone could be faulty.

I am using P1. It has good sound quality and loudness during a call.

P.S. Keep in mind that I have Sound mod full installed on the phone. In fact it was great (at least for me) while it was with the default sound drivers too, but I wanted some extra loudness and I modded it.

Having had in the past 2 SE smart phones the P800 and P900 their call quality was the best. So the P1 must be good.

Thanks for your comments so far. I'm in doubt about the P1. YES: Its keyboard (yesyesyes!), its sound quality, its smartphone feel. NO: It's older, has sluggish interface, don't like Symbian, AND: it's not available from Vodafone NL as part of a contract, so I'd have to get one separately. Getting sim-only instead of phone-included, only saves me €85. So the P1 will effectively cost met €280, but the W890, W980, or C902 will cost me only €85.

Well that's OK then. I have a long time hands on experience with the P1 so I gave my info for that phone. I don't know about the others you mentioned above.

Do you find the P1 sluggish in operation? Are you using it for websites? If so, what browser?

I find the P1i reasonably fast for a smartphone. I modded it a little and made it even faster than it was. I browse the net every day from it, using the latest Opera mini (I'm posting this from the phone btw). The touch screen and qwerty keyboard are great for this, but you should already know this from your M600i.

I modded mine A LOT!!! I use several browsers... The best one Opera Mini 4 imho. For downloads the built in browser is great (it downloads from sites like rapidshare and 4shared) .

For speed, I find it quite fast compared to other smartphones from .

id say the P1i has good sound quality only in quiet environments
if you use public transport and live in a noisy city, the P1i is often an embarassment. Especially on noisy intersections with lotsa traffic, I cant hear thru the earphones
the sound mod affects only the music , not the loudness of calls from my experience

Yeah but all drivers for sound can be changed... Anyway I find it loud enough. At least for me...

I agree. The P1i is loud enough. And when i'm in a noisy part of the city, I always use my headphones as a handsfree anyway.
