Oh ye deff mate same here.
Just found another police job I'm qualified for, needs 5 GCSE's and 2 A or 3 higher grades, which I have.
These are now the 2 I am looking at:
http://www.raf.mod.uk/careers/jobs/rafpoliceofficer.cfm
http://www.raf.mod.uk/careers[....]licenoncommissionedofficer.cfm
Wonder what the difference is, is anyone able to tell me?
I phoned them up and said I ordered and info pack for the 2nd one, and just seen this 1 and would like more info on it, the lady said that the pack being sent is a general info pack to that area, and the main reason they send out the packs is to generate me a reference number, which I phone back with and they then arrange an interview for me at my nearest centre.
She said when I get there, I can discuss various different jobs and rolls and they will go over everything.
So when I get there, I'll tell them I would love to be in the dog section of the police department and that's my number one choice and see where we go from there.
Thing is, I can't do anything till that ref number comes through (7-10 days), and the job centre wants to put me on a YMCA program for 2 weeks on tuesday, 9am to 5pm every day for 2 weeks.
But now I know what I'm aiming for and I'm doing it, I'm going to ask Tuesday morning if they could back off on it just for a few months.
Because even if the RAF don't want me for whatever reasons, I have a full time college course lined up and GCSE maths ready to re-take.
I should start a blog, my life starting out in the RAF
Hmm hehe
Thanks for advice guys, I thought some people would post saying don't bother, they won't take you etc etc but a few people are saying going for it which pushes me more to do it.
Thanks

As posted in another topic, I have a job interview for an IT technician at a book company on tues, however I have been thinking and yes the IT Technician is a good job and steady work, the RAF would be a career for me where as that IT job would just be a job.
So I've decided I'll go to the interview and try my best to get the job, but I will however still be going to the interview at the RAF centre and try my best to get in to the RAF too, even if I did get the IT job.
I'd rather be in the police section of the RAF building a career, then just doing an IT job in a small town.
I might not get the job and this won't even be a problem, but if I did, would the RAF look at me any different than if I had no job at all?

The second one is as a commisioned officer meaning you are in a higher rank and therefore in charge of things..
more pay too!

I also think the second one would be the better option.

Think I might join the first one with lower pay, because it says early opportunities to work with dogs, then after a few years, apply for a higher position.
The guy on the phone from the RAF just now was a right w*nker.
I phoned up just to confirm my maths is accepted there, because I have a maths grade F and my mum thought F meant fail, but because I was in the lowest set for maths, the highest grade I could achieve was D and the lowest was G and I got F.
So I phoned and just said Is an F maths grade ok, I have a certificate saying I passed maths at F, and I know you accept G grade so just to confirm the F would be ok yes.
he goes
"Ok, and does F come before G"
"It sure does"
"Then you'll be fine"
"Ok thanks, just wanted to confirm"
"Honestly mate don't worry about your grades, when you get your info pack, give us a call and arrange an interview and we'll sort it all out"
So went from being a dick to being ok.
Lol, working in an IT office now seem so crap, kinda got me heart set on doing this, hope it doesn't effect my attitude on Tues lol.

Don't worry about people like that - they are not all like him - most are decent people. Go for it, you can go for an IT job anytime.
Put your mind to it and the services can be a damn good career. Don't listen to those who have have had no experience. As I said, I was in the Navy for nearly 30 years, from the age of 17, and still work for the MOD.
Keep me and others, if they want, informed.

Mate, give them a call and go to the 1st interview, the 1st one is just for you and them to get to know each other, you don't have to sign anything.

nah,
i'm just about to start 6th form..
i've got the GCSEs already and i'm sure i'll be alright with the A levels,
but i'm not sure whether to apply for a college bursary as i'm not sure what it's like..
for example. i get a college bursary because i want to be a pilot but it means I have to join, what happens if I can't then be a pilot?

I'm not sure what happens mate it's all new to me lol.
A levels are ok, I stayed on at 6th form for 3 years and done 2 years of college and got a few A levels all at B and Pass grades.
Total number of interviews since Jan?
2,
One in Feb and 1 on Tuesday.
I've found it very hard, and looking back, I kinda wish I took my mums advice and joined when I was 17-18 and didn't go to college etc because it's not done a whole lot for me.

Hey,
Does anyone have any info on the recruiting process?
I want to know, on average, how long it takes from the first interview, to actually getting in to the RAF.
Because I may be getting a job next week as an ICT Trainee technician, and if I did, I would have to phone up and change the date of my first interview because it's on a Friday at 11am, so would probably be during my work time.
