Wake me up when SE releases a good phone |

Hi all,
But that's it really isn't this OP is not alone and it is now common to see threads complain about SE. This never used to be the case and complaints where rare which is one of the reasons we all loved SE.
If it is happening hear on a pro SE forum with more members seeking devices from other brands is it really any surprise they are losing market share and position.
Only those in denial still protect any criticism of SE and brand any one that dares to a SE hater.
But the facts are there for all to see lots of complaints and dropping market share isn't our imagination.
Looking at the K850 a flagship CyberShot that 10 months and 5 firmware updates later still has people with dead phones and wanting a fix it all software. Now that really is bad service and delivery from SE and they wonder why they are dropping.

5 firmware updates later...? Err, make that 3, would you, as 3 generic firmware updates is the amount of updates that has been.
Ah well, yet another pathetic thread, soon to be ruined by mr you're-all-in-denial. Bye!

Hi Mizzle,
Well again as not really being that interested in SE any longer i didn't notice some where carrier branded versions.
But as it happens on checking it still appears to 4 not 3 but the point is 8 months after launch and users still are having huge problems and BROD or other problems that require a trip to service centre and no phone for more than a couple of weeks. Which is abysmal for any product never mind a flagship product.
Here are the listed non branded firmwares
R1AE037 12/4/08
R1EA031 12/3/08
R1DA308 21/12/07
R1CA037 25/10/07
As taken from the K850 firmware thread.

lol, thanks Marc, very nice of me to correct you, when I mistyped it myself
But yes, four updates, not that it matters, and R1CA029 was the release one (not mentioned).

@Mizzle
I agree the one it launched with doesn't count as i was talking of how many releases to fix it have been released since launch. But your right the number doesn't really matter other than showing that SE just can't get it right but 8 months and counting really is far to long as these are not adding new features but trying to get it right and to work as it should of on release for all buyers.

I'm not going to argue with you on this matter, all I can say is that it varies a hell of a lot - my K850 is bug free, and the few bugs I experienced in the release version and follow-up update have been fixed in later updates. For now, I'm looking forward to R3 for feature additions.

I used to really love SE.
I convinced everyone around me, friends, family, girlfriend, to switch from whatever brand they had to SE, and now they all have.... would seem strange if I switched to another brand now.. although they've all noticed me bitchin' about SE phones for months now so it probably wouldn't be such a big surprise afterall.
I still think SE makes the best phones, which is kinda sad for the overall market. But yes, they really have been delivering lousy service, like e.g. stopping firmware updates for models way too soon was one of the more surprising decisions they took. I forget what model, but I think it was the P990 and more.
I have been a proud SE owner since T68i, stunning people when I demonstrated what it could do. But things really have changed since those days for me, starting with the hiss issue in the W800 models. For months I was sure the hiss was just a mistake they made and assumed SE would fix it in next firmware. When they didn't I just waited for next firmware again, expecting them to fix it since it was clear it was a big mistake. I was 100% sure SE wouldn't do something like that on purpose. But they didn't fix it. Then I learned that they just wouldn't. Many many people complained about this. That was a big disappointment.
I thank the people who hacked the phone, making it possible for me to throw back the old sound drivers, making my W800 usable for music again.
To me it just looks like SE has sold their soul, and that's so sad. It's all about getting new phones out all the time now, make people buy them and then screw them by avoiding firmware fixes and focusing on the next model instead. That's unacceptable behavior.
But they get away with it because it takes a lot of make us switch to another brand, doesn't it? Look at me bitchin' and yet I'm still hoping to find an SE phone instead of browsing other brands... |

Seriously, if you're going to post this BS, do your homework.
Both P1 and W960 have auto focus cameras.
I stand corrected, but remember other reasons why I didn't consider them.
I have a W950 also, Symbian device, amazingly slow. I fear P1 and W960 is just as slow. I need speed. I'm not waiting 1-2 seconds after pressing an icon for it to pop up. My W800 reacts fast. That's how it should be. |

mr lou,
I ended up buying a nokia n82 after owning several SE phones. I too didnt like the UI of nokia but i have got used to it and like it now.
Your best bet would be to move brands. There are so many better options out there, with even LG producing some nice phones ahead of SE. |

Moving brands is the last option, but I'm getting there.

When watching YouTube videoes of G900 demonstrations, I just think the UI is too slow. I used to blame that on Symbian, but the K850 seems just as slow.
Is there no option like "Turn of useless animation and transitions"? It's doing nothing but slowing down the phone. Any kind of themes that are less slow than other themes?
Any way at all to prevent having to wait 1-2 seconds pr key press for a reaction?
I'm actually using a good old Z600 for work. Though slow for sms, it reacts instantly in the menu. Such a "feature" seems to be way down the priority list today. |

Actually I think there is. On a UIQ phone I believe you can opt to turn off transitions or something.

There's some interesting looking rumoured Nokia phones. The N85 looks the best at the moment, suppose to be the N96 follow on. Hopefully they'll add a Xenon flash among the other improvements. Would be worth keeping an eye out for that. Also an N88 is supposed to be another all bells & whistles N series. If SE produced an equivalent I’d buy it, but as that’s looking doubtful (unless I want to wait a couple of years), I (along with many others) could be changing brands this summer. |
