Switch off all internet access, routers, cable modem etc then reboot and delete as soon as you can before programs start loading. worked for me once!

Find something to download on the internet (any file at all like a .zip file) and when you get the 'save as' box, change the location to c:\\ and the file name and extension to the same as the offending .dat file exactly, including CaSe SeNsItIvIty!

Hopefully, it'll ask you if you want to overwrite the file. Click 'OK' and the download will begin.

When it's finished, try deleting the file again. This has worked for me a few times

its a permission problem..basically..

try this program..it lets you modify permissions on certain files..as long as you're on the admin account..

Did you try safe mode without networking and then delete?

It basically saves all the torrents' downloaded information...most people face problems with utorrent..like hanging..when resume.dat gets corrupted.

http://au.answers.yahoo.com/q[....]ndex?qid=20080522211343AAvFUmu

So i suggest that you try reinstalling utorrent..then start downloading a new torrent through it. Then you exit utorrent and delete the entire appdata/utorrent folder at once.

Or if utorrent is giving that access error..just exit it from taskmanager and without uninstalling delete the appdata/utorrent folder.

Hope it works..

Similar problem asked Here...

When i reinstall utorrent, it doesnt make a new resume.dat, it uses the old one to which it cant write/read/access.
i'll try without networking and then i'll try booting from ubuntu live cd and see if i can delete from there

Since you have installed the software again you can try to do like this also: Install Revo uninstaller and use moderate uninstall. That should remove all the remaining bits of the software.

well from the link provided, i was able to run the software, by making a copy of that .dat file somewhere else, so that the program then uses the copy and not the original.
the problem with vista is that its chkdsk utility always scans up to 21% no matter what i do.
is there anyway i can restart into DOS mode and run chkdsk from there?

Here is Hiren's boot CD. Burn the iso to the cd and boot from the CD. There is one tool (among many) on this great CD and its called HDD regenerator. You must mail the man so he can give you the download link.

Btw, if you check both checkboxes in Check Disk it does not ask you to reboot?

Did you try Revo uninstaller? You don't need to copy the dat file anywhere.
