Oh yeah, K770 doesn't have an operating system. It's nothing but a brick.

Thanks for all the input! I would have gone for the E51, or I should have. Instead, I went for the truffle brown K770. I'm posting from it as we speak. To be honest, I'm a little disappointed with it, having used a K750 and W810 prior to this. They were much faster and the buttons definitely felt better. The K770's feel a little stiff. Perhap I should just give it some time. Also, the LCD display seems to be poorer than my W810's. The colours are pale and there's a yellowish tinge. My W810's display was so much better, the colours were very vivid.
But apart from the above, the K770 basically has everything I need in my phone. Being able to use MPE to transfer my contacts and calendar entries is a big plus.

The same with my wife's soft black K770. The yellowish cast is odd, just like how most TFT LCDs turn as they age. Maybe SE got some surplus old displays and instead of throwing them away, decided to use them in an entry-level Cyber-shot instead. And the creaking battery cover is something SE kept from the K750. Good that some things never change...

E51 is soon to be available minus the camera just like they did with the E50, one with and one without a camera. |

Are you not able to return the K770 and take a E51?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not all that unhappy with the K770. In fact, it seems like turning off the 3g reception speeds up the phone. The yellowish tinge is something that I can live with, since I know now that mine's not the only one. As for the keypad, I think it'll just take some time to break in. The K770 does offer better features than my previous SE phones. And I like the A100 UI, which is one reason why I opted for the K770 instead of the newer models running on A200. |

Keep in mind that the K770 has an ambient light sensor. Use the phone in a decently lighted area, and the screen suddenly brightens up and looks even better than a W580i (one of SE's best!). It stays dim in a dark room to conserve energy. Try it by putting it under a light and you'll see it brighten up.
As for the yellow tint, yeah, my T650 has the same odd characteristic. |

@borg, I believe the K810 is a great phone too. The only reason I didn't get that instead is cos of the joystick. I encountered some problems with the joystick on my K750 even though I took really good care of it, so that's why I decided to go for the K770 instead since it offers similar features.
@Radiux399, I know about the light sensor, my W810 has it as well, but its display is more vibrant. Since you've mentioned that your T650 has the yellowish tinge as well, then I know mine's not an isolated case.

The duel between K700 x K850 and also K800 http://dailymobile.se/2008/03[....]on-k770-vs-sony-ericsson-k850/
Now i'm impressed with the K770 and is a little bit forgotten

Deluded.
IMO u should have gone for E51 dude. The K770 is basic phone, But i think E51 has lot of connectivity options and great phone book and contact options and nice information management, average camera.and nice steel materials and wlan by which u can browse the internet in many free places, Hsdpa (high speed brownsing),quadband(although may not important) .Just try using E51 smartphone once there are less chances that u would want to go back to ordinary(non smart) phones. And if u have noticed the price of K770 are dropping day by day, because no one is buying them, it has dropped to around 350S$ and on other hand The E51 is still doing well and holding its price around 400s$

Not better than W580i. K770 loses in orange-yellow colors reproduction. Not to mention the lower level of brightness, and the yellowish white color compared with W580i. W580i has the very similar screen with S500i (also one of the best).
Captured in the bright environment, K770's light sensor was off (have checked it):

hey deluded! hahaha i've got my new k770 black (2nd set) already!
oh the first set had 4 bad bright pixels (three green one red) so called up SingTel to complain, they let me do a one for one exchange without any fuss, even delivered to my house. not bad.
having read all e earlier posts, i'm starting to think k770i may really be so cheap now because of the lousy lcd screens and cheap materials. but in any case, i still feel good about this phone, has decent camera, smart messaging system, and lightning fast reaction times.
this is in comparison to my previous samsung Z720 (useless camera, firmware full of bugs) and nokia 6670 (laggy Symbian brick).
so those still uncertain bout this phone, please do get the k770i if you don't mind cheap and good phones!
why paid $300 more to have it encoated in a metal case, with e camera sticking out waiting to be scratched, and still peels at the sides? (hint: T650i)
(oh yes and i still think black is the nicest color for it haha deluded, why did you get the brown in the end......)
