K770 (truffle brown or soft black) or E51 (black)? Update: I've bought the truffle brown K770! |

Well, it's time for me to look for a new phone to replace my W810 which has been an excellent phone all this time. I'm of course more inclined towards the K770 as I don't really need a smartphone. Does anyone have any bad experience with the K770? Any major issues? I've heard that it lags sometimes. Now, regarding the colour, I know it's really more of a personal preference, but I'd just like to get some opinions. Thanks people!

Soft black K770i would be my choice. Would've long gotten one actually if it would run A200 software platform. Don't want an A100 anymore. |

Can't really comment on the SE model, but I've been using the Nokia E51 since before christmas and its a good business phone, superb connectivity, the keypad is one of the best I've used with large tactile keys, its also very quick for a S60 device. Don't buy it for the camera though as its pretty poor and certainly not as good as the 2Mp SE phones. |

The K770 is a great phone with a great screen, awesome camera. Only maybe the build quality is a little on the so-so side, and probably not quite as solid as your old phone. But its still an excellent phone. I prefer the white color. |

Thanks for the feedback so far, I have tried the E51 and it definitely is a solid phone, very responsive for a smartphone. In terms of features, the E51 definitely is superior, no doubt about that, apart from the camera. As for the K770, I've been wanting to get it ever since I saw it. I'm using MyPhoneExplorer with my W810, as I have been with my K750 previously. It really makes organising my stuff easier. That's another reason I'm hoping to stick to SE. I also like the fact that I can edit the words in my T9 dictionary, something that I'll miss greatly if I were to get the E51. I have used Nokias all my life until I got my K750 and W810 and I have always been annoyed by the fact that I cannot remove words that I may have spelt wrongly or only wanted to use once. I also understand that with the new S60 3rd edition, it'll be very difficult to access the system files and even freeware needs to be signed. I'd like to hear from K770 users regarding the apparent issue of the phone lagging. Under what circumstances does it happen? I'm used to the responsiveness of my W810 and if I really had to, I might go for the E51 instead. |

its not true that frewares has to be sigend, just a few of them... there are tons of apps for s60 devices.. imo e51 is agreat fone, do love the e series, but it has a way to small screen for my taste. and also the batt standby is amazing

I think e51 is the much better one with wifi, 3.5mm jack and smartphone OS which can do much more. And it is very snappy with very good battery life. And it has quite a good bundled software incl. map, advanced call mgr and host of others business apps. Downside is the screen is slightly small (for a smartphone). |

if you dont need a smartphone, why bother spending the extra few dollars on a e51 then

@>500, if the E51 was more costly, I wouldn't be considering it as I feel that I don't really need to have a smartphone, though I'd know how to fully utilise one if I had to. The thing is, the E51 is actually slightly cheaper than the K770 here. Which makes me wonder if I should pay more for something that has no wifi.
@Boba, mib, thanks for the very useful information regarding the E51. The last Symbian phone I used was the 3230, so I'm not very familiar with the current Symbian S60 OS and it's limitations. I've just been seeing users discussing about the need to sign programs before they can be installed. So there are freeware programs that do not require signing?

If E51 is cheaper then there is no point in going for K770, not even for camera. If you're even remotely serious about camera then go for K810.
With E51 you get
-bigger screen
-operating system
-wifi
-looks
-edge
-irda
-faster processor
-smaller in size compared to K770.

With E51 you get
-bigger screen(same resolution)
-operating system(not everyone needs)
-wifi(depends if u need)
-looks(k770 looks much better)
-edge(doesnt k770 have it?)
-irda(useless)
-faster processor(suffecient for what it does)
-smaller in size(but thicker) compared to K770.

@>500, I'm from Singapore and I can get the K770 or the E51 at USD$50 and USD$35 respectively with a 2 year contract.
@QVGA, Fanofmodi, the specifications of the E51 are definitely superior. I just wish there was a similar offering from SE. I've gotten so reliant on MPE that it's a major consideration when it comes to getting a new phone.
@All, thanks for the input so far, I'd love to hear more, especially from current K770/E51 users. I have till Friday to make a decision.

Oh yeah, K770 doesn't have an operating system. It's nothing but a brick.
