The real issue is when Ericsson and Nokia have phones that are similar on the market what we will do.

The point i am trying to make, is that the T68 is really the first of its kind and this is why we are all here discussing the merits of the phone.

Right, like most everybody here I prefer an Ericsson phone, all other things being equal.

But that is not the case always. It is the reason I use my 9210 a lot, and the r380 rarely.

But it is also why I have a T68, T39, and an R520, but no 8000 series Nokias. (tho I have one of the wierdo 5510s).

The Ericsson phones are simply better, and otherwise comparable.

And I think you have a decent point, JH, about the 7650. I think it might attract a lot of people turned off by the brick like dimensions on the 9000 series. But it will be hard to make full use of the potential without a keyboard OR a touch screen. We shall see.

The thing that really worries me about the future of Ericsson with Sony is the Memory Stick. We don't need it, and nobody wants it. But that 3G prototype that I have the photo of on my site has a memory stick right next to it. Ugh. Give me SD/MMC any day. I am a bit photography buff, too, and the memory stick is why I won't buy a new Sony camera, even tho the new 5mp camera is the best rated.

Otherwise I think you will see a lot of good coming out of the partnership with Sony. Just compare the Clie palm computers with those from Palm itself. Sony knows how to design a device. I would have one of those instead of my m505 if it weren't, again, for that damned memory stick....

JH,

You are probably right meaning that they will come out with a 7690, but that would merely mean that I can use it in the US and not in Europe which in my mind is sort of pointless in that why not make world phones. The 7650 is expensive as its is and will not support such functions.

Also, Europe has had the 8300 series for some time and the nOkia US website indicates that the 8390 is to be release, why the hell is it taking so long... same thing with the 9290

If ERicsson is Smart as more US carriers switch to GSM, the market for triband phone will quadruple

I run the site that is quoted in the start of this thread. I saw all the people coming in from this site and decided to check it out.

In any event, don't be so hard on Nokia. While they are generally technically inferior to Ericsson, the know what people want.

And outside of the notorius 6210, they don't have major problems with build quality. And one could just as easily point to the T28 as being a nightmare of a product, if you want to talk about frequent failures....

Anyway, back on topic. There has been recent talk of a delay in the 7650 release because of a color version of the 8300 series - meant to go head to head with the T68.

In any event, the 7650 is likely to be a winner. The 9210 has been very good to Nokia, and the 7650 will be running quite a similar version of the Epoc OS. Nokia will also have the advanatage of having worked out most of the OS bugs in the 9210 (which is still a great phone, even if it is a brick).

Hi to all, there are other who will quote T28, even Nokia have their own problem with quality issues : eg the Nokia 8310!
