I'm gonna have to disagree with those of you saying that the battery life is good. It seems like a mixed bag.
Since the first charge and use, my battery life has been horrible. I don't use bluetooth, 3g, WLAN, or gprs. My signal is usually about 3-4 bars. After an hour long phone call, battery life goes down about 20%. If I browse the internet for about 30 minutes, the battery life goes down 7-10%.
Some of you get the advertized 10 hours talk time. Good for you. But as for me, I get about 5 hours. Lucky you. |

Nobody can get the 10 hrs advertised talktime. You should take it with a BIG pinch of salt if someone tells you it can do that. |

I guess that would be in "optimal" conditions. If you compare with the k750, for example - in my area, it could take about six- seven hours talk... so to speak - i.e., an hour(gsm, using handsfree) would drain some 15%. And the p1 actually beats that, and ended up on about 12- 13%. So in fairly good conditions, you'd have somewhere around eight hours, using that way of measuring.
But the battery really does last a long time. The other day I accidentally left the phone with the walkman playing for five hours or so - and the meter went from around 75 to 50% *shrug*. And that was 192kbps mp3. I mean, I'm not complaining about that....
(But if it's significantly worse than that, you should have the phone looked at, imo).

My signal is usually about 3-4 bars.
-This might be your problem: knowing that Se phone refreshes the signal bar more often than other phones, i'd say 3 to 4 bars means your signal is not that good and this can deplete your battery fast,
After an hour long phone call, battery life goes down about 20%.
- That's normal. Same here.

Some of you get the advertized 10 hours talk time. Good for you. But as for me, I get about 5 hours. Lucky you.
- Again, if you get 5 hours of continious talk-time it means you have to have at least 2 full days of stand-by with moderate use. Which again is normal.
In the end, I think you are over-reacting a little bit and I see no trouble with your battery time, based on what you have told us above.

1 hour talk, 20 min voip, 45 min web browsing and push imap always on. throw in a couple of text messages and i have to charge the phone every night. a phone which offers all these functions should be able to do them for 2 days. now i can't spend the night somewhere without bringing a charger. |

I noticed a very fast drainage of the battery when the camera is on "stand-by" = when you take a picture and you don't turn off the camera; you keep it as it it, in order to be prepared for an unexpected shot.
In flight mode, the camera went from 60% to 0 in 2 hours, with only some notes being written ...

reply to all of your problems: turn the backlighting to 40-50% and disable 3g coverage.... on moderate uses, the battery should last up to 3-4 days

Yep. That post should be a part of the guide someone was writing, maritus.
(Also a good idea: turn off the bluetooth/wifi modem when it's not used, and end the camera- app once in a while. As well as don't let instant messenger programs stay in the back when you're not using them, even if the connection times out. Very few of those programs don't have some sort of process going to check for connections - which draws battery power.)

I'am away for a week and I don't use the phone so much (just 2-3 calls, a few pictures, no internet, no email) and I still have 70% of the battery after 2 days. It'll stay like this for at least 4-5 days. So , you see, the battery is not bad after all.

You all have to understand the signal on 2G and 3G/UMTS make a lot of difference in the distance from the operator antena. Making a simple comparrisson:
2G is like AM radio. You can hear it miles away from the antena.
UMTS is like FM. You can only hear local radio stations (mostly).
If your area doesn't have a really good UMTS coverage, your phone will spend a lot of battery just report it's "alive" in the network.
The P1 manual says that the UMTS network spends 60% (!!!) more battery than 2G !
Conclusion: If you don't need UMTS, avoid using it.

GSM can be "heard" at max 36km (TA=64), and could be compared to FM.
UMTS could be compared to DAB.
AM could be relativised to NMT on 450MHz.
