The HCB-300 is a steaming pile of dog-turd. I have had 5 so far, two of which died in short order.

Parrot devices are best suited to cars with European ISO wiring but can be easily adapted to fit Japanese cars if you know your way around a multimetre.
Multimeter is one way, but there are leads available which allow ISO Parrot s to work in non-ISO vehicles. In many cases, the vehicle loom is never cut or tapped.
Regardless, a great degree of caution is to be advised for anyone attempting to install handsfree kits, as many newer vehicles employ CAN and VAN which means that an ignition feed is not available at the radio. Testing 'any old wire' for ignition can result in warning lights on the dash and/or system shutdown.
I realise that this is a hacker forum, but apart from the cost of a Main Dealer reset of warning lights, as vehicle safety can be impacted, I would advise to buy handsfree locally, or from a reputable company, and to have it installed by a professional. |

Hacker Forum? where? not here! I not a hacker! I'm a qualified Mechanic with alarm and car audio installation experience and over 1500 carkit installations (mostly Nokia).
You won't find any digital Multiplex wiring on a '97 WRX so using a multimetre will be fine. I agree that one should not poke around in the wiring of a modern car if one does not know what thier doing. But with only four wires to connect, it's hardly rocket science. One of my former work-mates once installed a Carkit-126 into a Mazda in 15 mins.

No offence intended, just advising caution to anyone that does attempt to poke around who might not know what they are doing!
The hacker reference was a sweeping reference to everyone on here (again, no offence intended to anyone!), including myself who hack/modify handsets. While not 'qualified' to modify handsets, one aspect of my current dayjob is updating firmware on Portable handheld computers. So I regard myself as a hacker when it comes to phones.
