Just wired up a HCB-300 Car Kit. Need some help / advice please. |

Hi all
Just wired up a HCB-300 Bluetooth car kit and it's driving me mental as it's not working and I can't see any reason why not.
I've got it connected to permanent live, Ignition live, earth, phone mute all as necessary.
Turn on ignition and just get 2 crackles from the speaker every 2-3 seconds but apart from that, no life at all!
No light comes on the controller.
My P990i (or K810i) can't see the device via Bluetooth to pair up.
Can anyone offer any advice or has anyone wired theirs up themselves without problems?
Many thanks

If its happening when you turn your key, check that all connections are still what they were before you turn the key. Sometimes they change... |

The HCB-300's are faulty, I installed mine and it worked fine for three weeks then bam I can just hear the speakers crackle as you described, so I call to be told I needed to remove all of the unit and send it away, NOT just the little black box itself but they wanted everything!! so I never bothered and purchased a HCB-100 instead!

For Handsfree, I'd recommend abandoning brand loyalty and go with a Parrot CK3100.

Thanks for replies.
I've always stuck with SE Bluetooth things as I struggled with Voice dialling on a non-SE device once and was advised it was because it MUST be SE headset to work properly.
Do you know if a CK3100 would have full functionality with a P990i ?
Got to say I've got through quite a few SE headsets and all died after a short while. That's why I wanted a car-kit. Wish I hadn't bothered!

I can 110% recommend the Parrot MK6100, the one with the OELD screen. It has full bluetooth functionality with A2DP support, a wireless controller, removable display and all features like voice dial, etc work with the following phones, tested personally;
SE
M600, P1, P990, K800, K810, K850, W950,
Samsung
F700, U600, G800, P300
Bang and Oulfsen
Serene, Serenata
Nokia
N70, N73, N91, N93, N93i, N95, N95 8GB, E65, E90
Apple
iPhone.
And various others.

Hi
SE control units can be temperamental but I've not known them to be faulty straight out-of-the-box...
But first things first:
What model/year car is it installed into?
Where did you get the power supply and earth connections from? Fuse box or behind the Stereo?
How did you connect the stereo mute? With HCE-26 accessory or directly from the pin on the control box?
Are you sure the microphone and speaker plugs are not connected vice-versa?
It does sound like the control unit needs to be sent away for repair. An authorised service centre should have an HCB-300 unit in stock so shouldn't need ALL conponents for diagnosis... Unfortunately, a DIY install may void your warranty.

Hi mate
Thanks for this.
Try to answer all the above in turn:
Fitted to a 1997 Subaru Impreza WRX STi
Took the Permanent live and Earth from the leads behind the stereo (Spare Live contact unused from stereo). Checked with multimeter and both are as expected. Continuity on earth. Permanent 12v on Live.
Microphone and speaker have totally different jacks so cannot be mixed.
Phone mute lead from HCB300 is connected to the "Phone Mute" lead from the rear of the stereo that wasn't used before (pretty new Pioneer stereo)
Bought it on eBay (New) but guess I'm stuffed regarding guarantees etc.
Didn't install it immediately so out of Sellers 7 day guarantee period.
When ignition on, I have 12v at 2 of the 4 pins going to the Black box, 1 is earth (continuity checked ok again here) and last pin has 4.8v which I'm not sure about but don't know what it should be.
Many thanks

Are you getting the 4.8v from the Radio or from the HCB-300?

On a 97 WRX I'd go for the back of the stereo too, for power/earth connections
On the HCB-300, the RED wire is 12V permanent feed, the BLUE is 12V ignition sense and the BLACK is earth (of course).
If the Pioneer Headunit is an aftermarket model then it's 12V permanent feed will be the Yellow wire and it's igniton sense (ACCessory) will be Red.
So RED connects to Yellow and BLUE connects to Red. BLACK connects to Black or to a convenient bracket (but check for continuity to earth first).
and Nokia use YELLOW wires for Stereo mute. For HCB-300 stereo mute you'll need a plug in accessory or there is a trick which my former boss called 'smoke and mirrors'

Hi Carkitter
Yeah that's exactly how I've wired it.
Only thing I haven't done is disconnect the phone Mute lead in case that's causing problems but otherwise it's exactly as you've stated which is why I'm really hacked off it's not working.
Hi Johnrm
I'm getting 4.8v at the last pin (of 4) in the power lead cable going into the black box of the HCB300. 4 Pin Connector. Checked with Multimeter as follows:
1 is 12v permanent
1 is 12v when ignition on.
1 is earth
1 is 4.8v.
That's how I know there's power getting to the black box.
think I'll disconnect the Phone Mute just on the off chance it's causing a prob but not optimistic.
Wish I'd have got a Parrot CK3000 or 3100 now but gonna be out of pocket big-time now!
Thanks all

Don't hold your breath mate!
Do a simple google search and you'll be amazed just how many units were faulty!
I was referred to Fleetwood Communications for repair but they insisted I unistalled it all and sent it off to them!! the though of taking my Transporter to pieces again put me off so I cut the wires ripped it out put it in the bin and got a visor unit instead!!

Cheers Nanu
It wouldn't take me long to uninstall it. (I could do it with my eyes closed now probably , I've been inside there so many times now!)
If the unit is faulty I'm shafted as I can't get a refund / replacement by the sounds of things.
I too was thinking of getting the visor clip variety but I'm now being tempted away from SE (more and more by the day at the mo).
Sounds like I bought a duff unit and because i didn't install it straight away (because of Christmas, the 7 day returns policy is long gone.
SE support were useless.
My SE loyalty is fast disappearing.
I'll be binning the P990i soon if they don't watch it and jump ship completely!
Cheers

HCB-300 is a good unit, but no carkit is as reliable as it's Nokia eqivalent unfortunately. I'd get the Control unit checked out before binning it.
I would have chosen the HCB-700 personally because of it's display screen, or a Sony A2DP Headunit like the MEX-BT5000/MEX-BT2500 which both have built in BT carkit functionality.
Parrot devices are best suited to cars with European ISO wiring but can be easily adapted to fit Japanese cars if you know your way around a multimetre.

Thanks for your help.
I'll keep you posted and see if I get any joy.
PS - How's Auckland looking? A damn site better than Loughborough I imagine!
