if memory serves me correct it's not even an MDLP one, but it is a recorder, so could be helpful to someone just getting into MD.. but if it's in 5 pieces....

they still produce these things 
me mates got a Sony MDS-JE530 gathering loads of dust it does get used ocass tho

I used to have the first NetMD model they released (forget the model number). But it had either SP which took a bugger of a time to rip, or MDLP which I found was just too low a bitrate for my liking. It was way better than cassette (yes I had a Sony cassette walkman before that) but when mp3 players came along and you could just copy mp3's direct, or rip from CD a lot faster I just found I didn't use the NetMD that much.
The other big disadvantage of the MD format is the media size. And the thing that used to really bug me was the inability to copy audio I'd recorded in digital format on to my computer. The only means was to go through the quality destroying process of plugging the MD into my computer's analog sound card and recording the analog stream in realtime. Has this changed with recent MD recorders? Or are they still trying on that stupid copyright protection crap?

never had that problem, had a digital sound card ever since I can remember, so mini toslink to mini toslink and away you go
there was another way, burn to cd then record to md player on your normal Hi Fi, is how may mates did it,
MZr-N1 was the first netMD player 
from what I understand, with the newest Hi MD you can literally drag and drop tunes onto the MD player but not using hi-md I can neither confirm of deny this...

any recommendations guys... obviously gonna go the ebay route as sammy boy got himself a lil bargin there
Basically i want long batery life also tho.... as my ipod nano is pretty shocking for battery life

I didn't have digital audio on my pc in those days, but even with toslink it's still a realtime recording. Since I had a netmd model getting audio onto a minidisc at mdlp2 was fast enough to be bearable (just), it was getting audio off that irritated me. For example reocrdings of gigs or jam sessions.
When putting music on the minidisc, because of the time it took to rip SP quality I didn't often bother with SP, so always was settling for mdlp2 (132Kbps).
I used this method for copying mp3's to the minidisc. Using simple burner and a nero image. http://www.minidisc.org/NetMD_faq.html#_q84 (I hate OPenMG to the death - a crappy hog of an app I'm glad I saw the back of)
I had the MZ-N505, which wasn't the first NetMD but one of the early ones. I did love my little NetMD, but ultimately I feel I get a lot more convenience, ease of transfer and storage capacity per cubic centimetre out of solid state devices, especially when that solid state audio device is my phone

I still use an MZR-N910 leeboy. Batt life is a little bad these days, just whack it on its dock and away you go, no sweat at all!
And while yes, mp3 players are easier, it depends what you want from portable audio, I unfortunately want proper reference sound, so my N910 and mdr-v500 are a force to be reckoned with, if a little quiet, but nothing a headphone amp doesn't sort 
I see sony now only do 1 md player.. I suggest people get one while they can before they make it a professional only format....

i've read from a few places that this last remaining md is how md should've been, easier to transfer stuff to it, less silly restrictions with transferring music etc. This true? Might save up for one of them if i get the use out of my md player when it arrives! Just bought one of those little sony dual head mics to go with it too!

the new one (M200) will record unrestricted wav files, also, when uploading to it, it will convert to wav files..
well all know wav files kick arse...

So the new ones had dispensed with the ATRAC format then?
I'm guessing any files I record on my MD will be transferred to the PC as ATRAC files then? Mind you, I can probably convert them using another programme to Wav/MP3 files!

Just found an interesting article on Minidisc.org written in 1999 about the future of Minidisc, and also touching on the future of 'solid state' (flash memory) music devices, music and the internet, and also downloading of music onto mobile phones, which they seemed a bit incredulous about even only a mere 8 years ago!

Aaaah good old minidisc back in the day, never failed me, they didn't really catch on though did they. Could never seem to buy many retail discs or anything, shame really.
