1)Yes. I manually specified DNS and switched off power save on the phone, switch on and switch off the phone and now I can browse with opera via wifi

2) If I type "youtube" on google search with opera, the first address displayed is http://m.youtube.com/ (mobile version of youtube).
Via Umts clip streaming works, via Wlan does not work.

That implies that the proxy on your utms is doing something to the page to make opera work properly and correctly stream the content - you could mention this on the opera support forums.

Well I noticed long ago on my own that a lot of services don't work properly when power save was on. I had that HandyWeather going and it wouldn't get the weather sometimes, RSS and email would refuse and error up. The problem is, those things happen only some of the time. But ever since disabling, no problems yet.

Well actually, I did notice one problem, at university [University of Toronto, to be specific], I can't pick up a connection there. I mean I do, but it never connects. They have a complicated thing going on but any idea why that would happen?

On a laptop, you have to connect to the access point, give it a university password, then try access a page. you are then confronted with a student login. But I can't get that student login up.

Please read further up in the thread. You almost certainly just need to know the login page url, and open that first.

BTH I have used several open networks that work in this way, mostly BT openzone ones, what usually happens is as soon as you attempt top browse to a page in opera you just get directed to the login page instead. It doesn't automatically appear when you connect to the network.

You should leave the DNS to be assigned automatically, only manually specify if you have problems.

Proxy server address and port you should get from your network admin.

Hi guys,

Was just reading posts here but when my problem got solved by reading here, i joined and I want to share also my experience to everyone.

Was having the same problem, connected to WLAN but cannot connect to the Internet. It was fine before, I can connect no problem to the internet until I TURNED ON THE POWER SAVING. So, when i read about turning OFF the Power Saving, everything works fine now as before. So if you guys also have the same problem, might as well turn off power saving until SE comes up with a FIX for this.

The power save issue is one with cheap domestic routers not supporting it, rather than one with the p1 as such.

I had power save polling enabled on a laptop which then constantly dropped its wlan connection when using my home router. It was most irritating. The p1 could do with some tweaking to work better with poor wlan connections though.

I have a SE P1i and I can easily connect to the internet thru WLAN. The problem is the connection drops out after the phone is left unattended for 5 minutes despite my timed out setting is set to NEVER and Power Saving is OFF..

My Router is a Belkin Wireless G+ and its settings are:

DHCP: Enabled
Connection Type: Dynamic
Wireless Mode: g+b
Protected Mode: OFF
Security: WPA Personal
Authentication: WPA-PSK
Encryption: TKIP
Channel: 8
Block ICMP Ping: Enabled
NAT: Enabled

Phone Setting is:

Dial Up Timed Out: Never
Preferred Mode: Automatic
Network Mode: Infrastructure
Power Save: Off
RTS Threshold: (256-2347) 2347

Anyone has idea what I'm missing so that I can have a continuous connection even if I'm on stanby mode since sometimes I'm using eBuddy mobile messenger and waiting for a contact to go online...

Hello everybody,

I don't know if this topic is still actual for anybody, but here is my problem and resolution it might work for most of you, using a Wi-Fi Router at home with your Series P phones.

I have 3 of them : P910i, P990i and P1i.

P910i worked fine with BT configuration.
P990i worked without any problem with the Wi-Fi @ home configuration (11g, WPA2+, Radius).

P1i.

That was amazing story of root cause research.

P1i didn't want to work as easy as the P990i with the Wi-Fi @ home. Was looking like one week for any kind of configuration possibility. Tested with 8 various Wi-Fi routers (Zyxel 2x, Netgear, Netopia, Siemens, LinkSys 2x, D-Link), various configurations, with / without encryption, with / without WEP / WPA protection, 802.11 Mixed mode / Only B / Only G, Long / Short / Dynamic Preamble, All possible available channels, etc, etc.

Nothing. Association correct every time but impossible to surf on the Internet. Then I went to P1i's advanced settings and discovered following :

Maximum RTS/CTS Threshold and Fragmentation Threshold are smaller on the P1i than on any router tested and mentioned above (2347). Standard values of those on any Wi-Fi router is 2432.

So the trick is to reduce those values on the router (don't forget they have to be even - 2346) and put the same on the P1i.

Restarted the P1i, tested the association with all above mentioned routers and it worked perfectly fine.

No problems detected until now with all other equipment connected in Wi-Fi (3 Laptops, 2 Desktops, PS3, 1 QNAP, P990i, XPERIA, 2 Blackberries).

Hope this will be helpfull for people having same / similar problems.

Wish you a nice day and a peacefull weekend.

Best Regards,

NeoTrinity
