Wlan not working correctly on P1i |

I have a wireless router at home that I have been using successfully with my P1i. But today I haven't been able to open any webpages. I get "Cannot locate remote server" in opera.
I can connect to the router but I can't open any webpages, sign in to fring, etc.
The wlan works correctly on my laptop, pocketpc, psp, etc. So this must be some problem with the P1i.
Any thoughts?

Install the VPN client from the SE fun and downloads section - it has a PING command you can use to test internet connectivity. If you can PING IP addresses OK but cannot PING web URLs then it is a DNS problem - and possibly a DCHP problem.
You could then try changing the DCHP & DNS setup in the phone - statically assigning them for example. |

Probably not relevant but I couldn't access my router which I had on WEP, changed to WPA and have had no problems since |

I have WEP for a home wifi connection but work (and my mums) use WPA or WPA2 (not sure which). I have had the P1 connecting and browsing with all of them without any issue since the e30 firmware. |

Ok, I'll try that.
Btw, a direct link to the VPN client is http://www.sonyericsson.com/downloads/fd/02/VPNClient_P1.sis

SO many people have problems with the P1i WLAN feature. Just remember that your phone isn't faulty, it's the software that doesn't quite work properly enough! |

The important thing to remember is that WIFI is a horribly complex beast, WIFI connections are very hard to diagnose even on a pc (worse for mixed mode B/G conncetions), if it comes to that any networking/internet connectivity problems are very hard to diagnose.
What is needed is a internet tools pack for the P1 (and any wifi phone) to include the standard tools such as ping, traceroute, dns tools etc etc which could then be used to diagnose the problems.
Myself I think the vast majority of WIFI issues people are having are to do with time outs on DHCP - i think he P1 connects to the router and attempts to get DHCP information but the router takes too long to respond - thus causing the connection to look "live" but not allow internet connections to work properly. If you had a windows PC you'd then show limited connectivity for the connection. Also, remember that a wifi phone is much more "mobile" and a normal Wifi client such as a laptop - you don't walk around the house carrying your laptop whilst using wifi (well i dont) but you do with the P1 - you will walk in and out of range of the router really quickly, so the connection will drop in and out all the time - most routers especially the cheapers ones which tend to end up for home use really aren't geared for this, they don't expect a client to connect, disconnect, reconnect and disconnect within the space of a few seconds. Most wifi routers are rather slow at responding to DCHP requests, which is why i think so many of us are having WIFI problems. |

*nods* A network util package was a very good idea. And I'm sort of wondering sometimes, if the wlan implementation was tested in completely optimal conditions, as well.. on a virtual machine on a virtual network or something. |

No, the VPN client was simply mentioned because it includes a tool for testing internet connectivity.
The P1 and the P990 support WIFI 802.11 B. There are currently NO SE handsets supporting G. |

Try turning off Power save for the Internet Account you are using.
Control panel -> Conections -> Internet accounts -> Your account name -> Edit -> More -> Advanced -> Power save
This setting definitely worked for me, when I had an access point, wich I could connect to, but did not receive any data.
Some Access points do work corretly with the P1i and Power save enabled, but some others don't.
Let us know if this works for you as well.
Best regards,
Peter

Same problem. After 1000 attempts I'd tried to: power safe off and insert manually primary server DSN.
Now wlan browsing works.
Thanks.
...but youtube clip streaming don't works!

I don't understand: I can view on P1i youtube clip streaming via 3g UMTS but not via WLAN with my home router (Belkin pre n). Obviously I have not problems to make this with laptop wifi.
Why?
router problem?

Can you clarify, manually specifying the DNS server and turning off power save then allowed opera to browse the internet via your wifi?
EDIT : The youtube thing I would have thought was a Flash issue (you don't actually have flash on the P1) but the real question then is how the hell does it work via your 3g??? I was not aware that anyone had got youtube working on the P1 with Opera.
