so i found out what my problem was. its the usb ports on my laptop. i came to realized this when i spent 8hrs trying to unlock my iphone. my usb ports arent able to keep a good connection all the way thru. so randomly or during really extensive use like a backup it drops connection. i installed .19 on my desktop and it backed up beautifully with no interruptions. so if you guys were having the "mobile phone not responding" double check your usb ports. im running xp pro on both my machines by the way. i cant confirmed the .22 or the advanced call manager since i didnt have those installed during this working backup.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that. When I first attempted the backups I did so at the office, using the USB port on the side of my laptop. I'm sure that when I did the unbrand and update i used on of the ports on the back - which i also used to attempt the backup again.

I've come across this problem as well recently. It is something which happened with my M600 and P990 and for those phones, unchecking the backup for the Unified Box always solved the problem. I've never really understood what the Unified Box is so I don't know how important it is to have a backup of it. I haven't tried if this solves the problem on the P1 as well.

Just tried unticking the backup for Unified Inbox and the backup went through without any problem so it works for the P1 as well. I then tried backing up the Unified Inbox by itself and again, the backup failed. What is in that Unified Inbox??

Its your messages, SMS, MMS, Service messages etc. Everything except Email (which still have their own folders).

Interesting. I just tried backing up using the port on the left of my laptop. It basically didn't work - when i switched to the port on the back it sailed through.

I concur:
It seems to be the "Unified Messaging" part, which leads to time out the backup.
I tried to back up w/o it and it works. I then tried to back up *only* the "Unified Messaging" part and a timed out!

Even that this is a bug I don't mind it too much since I do not store anything important in here.

Nevertheless it really annoys me that it took me (wasted) hours to find out.

Hello guys.. new registration to esato but a loyal viewer as it helped me a lot of times...

I had the same problem with you guys, and I tried unchecking the Unified Inbox but to no avail. I also have bestcrypto installed which I presume operates in the same way as the programs described above.

The problem was resolved when I used the backup manager through the advanced option, and not the wizard. I now have a full succesful backup and Im going (hopefully) for a succesful firmware update.
Hope this helped

Therefore move your entire inbox to a new folder prior to backup that way you may be able to backup those essential 'unfiled' messages - got to be worth a try...
