I`ve got P1 O2 UK, so far so good, but today I was trying to update my firmware and wanted to back up my phone first.
But somehow every time after the back up procedure starts, the handset restarts and starts copying the files and when it gets just about half way through it just stops, the PC suite gives a "Back up cancelled by mobile phone" error message, the phone restarts again and that`s it! It is really frustrating...

Any suggestions????

This happened to me also, it seemed to resolve itself when I uninstalled Advanced Call Manager (which was auto starting).

Not sure if this was the cause, but it did sort itself out after the firmware update.

However - I updated to a Generic World firmware first, and then updated again on SEUS. After doing all this it hasn't happened again.

I have exactly the same problem and I don't have Advanced call manager.

I'm a bit scared because I believe that I'm in some kind of catch-22: to solve the backup problem, I would have to upgrade the firmware, but since the upgrade erease the P1 memory, I would have to do a backup before...

I hope I'll find another way to backup the P1 !!!!

It's not only the problem of P1, I had the same problem with W950i. The problem seems to be rather with PC suite than the phone itself. I was getting the same error message while trying to backup my phone on my home computer but on the computer at work I was able to make a backup without any problem.

Cheers
P1i great phone

I dont have advance call manager either.
Tried reinstaling PC suite but no good. Next step is to back up all contacts and calender to the memory card and then reinstall the firmware to see if that works (probably not)

Will get back when I've finished doing this.

Ok. Its taken a while due to other commitments but I managed to get the backup to work.

Backup your contacts and calender to the memory card using the contact manager and calender manager option (These are the only things that can be backed up for restoring later)

Turn the phone off and remove the sim and memory card.

Run SEUS, connect the phone in the usual way. Ignore the message saying you have the latest firmware. Click on continue anyway and press OK on the next 2 prompts.

Let SEUS run and finish.
Then set up your handset from scratch (Do not use a backup restore from the pc suite). Restore your calender and contacts from the memory card.

Set up your internet settings.

Run the pc suite and do a backup. Works again.

Looks like its the phone itself that has the problem and not the PC Suite

The problem is in the latest version of pc suite. I think its the .22. When I moved back to .19 I had no more problems.

I had this problem with .22 also - although i'm running in vista, I don't know if this had affected it. I know that after the firmware update it was fine.

You're right cadcad.

I have uninstalled the PC suite on my PC. I've installed a "fresh" PC Suite for Smartphones 1.3.22 and tried a backup three times and each time, it was a failure.

I have uninstalled version 1.3.22 and from my SE P1i CD, I've installed Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones, version: 1.3.19 and it works like a charm.

I will perhaps try the firmware upgrade...

Many thanks to everyone!

It's me again!

Hum... I've tried on another computer. I've downgraded PC suite to version 1.3.19
and I have the same problem.

So here is the situation:

- On computer 1: version 1.3.19 corrected the problem
- On computer 2: changing PC suite version has no effect. Still have problem with backup interruption.

BUT I now have a backup so I could try the firmware reinstallation...

I must admit that my PC are somewhat special. Computer 1 is a Mac running in PC mode under Bootcamp and PC 2 is another Mac running Windows under Parallels desktop.

so i found out what my problem was. its the usb ports on my laptop. i came to realized this when i spent 8hrs trying to unlock my iphone. my usb ports arent able to keep a good connection all the way thru. so randomly or during really extensive use like a backup it drops connection. i installed .19 on my desktop and it backed up beautifully with no interruptions. so if you guys were having the "mobile phone not responding" double check your usb ports. im running xp pro on both my machines by the way. i cant confirmed the .22 or the advanced call manager since i didnt have those installed during this working backup.
