But yes, unlimited mobile internet for £7.50 a month, on both pay monthly and pay as you go, finally O2 are in with a chance
funny how they fail to mention this when you ask them about changes to prices aren't the staff aware of this change at 02 online?
instead of mentioning anything related to data they have told me I can have my Pac Code now or wait till Dec 17th for it

Because we only found this out yesterday, O2 have about 20,000 people working for them and it takes time to tell them all this in detail
Besides, it's being lanched 1st October, not right this second
My opinions on this forum are that of my own and not of the company I work for. |

The training at o2 is currenlty on going as there are a few other changes like the new tarrifs from the 1st oct.
Not all staff have had the training yet. Most of them will have had it however by Thursday and Friday of this week.
So when you ring them they dont want to tell you the wrong information.
Its a safe guard for them.
All mobile phone companies work the same way.

Its 250MB for £7.50 a month with O2, which to me is far than enough MB for me to have and be happy with. |

Good Evening, I dont work for o2 direct, I am a Computer Engineer but Know just a little bit about o2
This is a difficult one indeed and have been following it very carefully and I know with the peopleon hear have also been watchin it too. I speak to the good people at o2 and a regular basis and its a questions a few have been asking.
The law in the UK is indeed different to the one in the states, I know i travel to the states often.
However to unlock a phone in this country is not illegal as per ofcom.
However and this is a big however. It all depends on the Terms and Conditions of what you sign when you purchase the Iphone.
You also have to answer another question.
Will the other UK networks want to support the iphone on there network.
You have to look at settings. Will the other network have settings for the phone?
Orange in the uk is the only other network that supports Edge Technology?
I know that this is somethng that o2 and I-phone are still in talks with at the moment (Its called the fine Print).
However I cant see why o2 wouldnt sell you the unlock code if requested.
But they could do it like other uk networks.
If you request the unlock code, I know that some uk networks request you pay the full line rental first and then let you have the unlock code.
So they know they get there money first, This is no illegal and its called covering there own backs!!
I have been reading loads and loads of comments on the net from all the forums regarding the cost. Lots of people saying its expensive etc.
Im going to add my own thoughts on this one.
There is a saying that if you want something, you will buy it regardless of cost and the Iphone is one of these must have toys for people.
Me im not bothered about the Iphone. I like a phone for a camera, 3g, removable memory card etc. So me the K850i fits the bill and yes i will buy one regardless of the cost.
I dont think the Iphone is expensive to be honest and at least its only a 18month contract in the uk.
USA is a 24 month contract and the iphone costed more at the launch.
Im not sure if this answers the question you asked. Its a difficult one to answer.

Thanks for your reply. Apparently there will be an option for a pay as you go sim for the iPhone. Therefore no line rental to pay if you want an unlock code, surely they couldn't refuse?
Also do you know if there will be an option to upgrade to the iPhone and keep your existing tariff without having to go on the ridiculous iPhone tariffs?
It might sound weird but I don't want to unlock it to use on another network, I want to unlock it so I can put an O2 simplicity sim in it because you simply cannot beat the simplicity tariffs.

You are more than welcome mswallis.
From the grape vine regarding the upgrade system, you have to go onto a iphone tariff. Its not just the uk, the usa have the same system and the other networks will do the same.
1 of the At&T usa tarrifs for normal gsm phones
$59.99 = 900 mins + Unlimited night and weekend mins
I phone
$59.99 = 450 mins + 5000 mins night and weekend mins
Regarding the PAYG System, I cant see why they would. But they may ask you to put for example a £100 credit onto the sim card first before they give it to you.
eg
Virgin and Tescos will unlock there phones for free, but you have to put £30 of credit onto the sim card first.
It covers them so if you dont use the sim card, they have £30 in there bank. |

Well 02 will be sending out alot of "Electronic Mails" then
bit of a surprise they'd rather give my Pac then tell me about data
I don't get how Vodafone's data works you pay £1 a day for a month or use it whenever you want within that month I believe £1 gets you 15MB
someone rang me from them tonight I didn't understand the guy I think he was calling from India

If you use the Data you wont be charged no more than £1 a day as long as you dont go over 15mb. After that you are charged.
So if you looked at the news on Wednesday and download something you would get charged £1.
So if you then used it Thursday to look at the weather then you get a £1 charge.
If you didnt then look at the phone for the rest of the month thn you dont get charged.
So if you used your mobile every day you will be charged £1 for up to 15mb.
so 31 days = £31
Heres something with Voda tho. You only hit the £1 mark once you have gone over the half mb mark
If you use less than 0.5MB you’ll only be charged for the pages you view. So five pages, for example, would cost you about 25p.
** Info of the voda page it self **

clever i suppose.
I hope this makes sense

Oh so it's not £1 everyday unless you decide to use it.
say I used it to check emails, ebay oneday then 10days later I used it again i'd only pay £2 on top of my line rental thats how it works
I don't know if i'd use 15MB lol so my data cost prob be less!
it says you can browse the Voda live homepage and links for free is this correct

Its really confusing Miss UK
Be careful with the email. I beleive thats not part of the allowence, Although this might be not correct.
Voda live pages used to be free. But as far as im aware there not.
O2 do bring there 200mb of data for £7.50 out from 28.09.07 |

I find it misleading to call it unlimited data for 200mb, its more like a 200mb data bundle. |

@darrengf
Sorry but you have got a couple of points wrong that i feel i should clarify firstly you say
"However to unlock a phone in this country is not illegal as per ofcom."
This is not correct or the point, the fact is it is illegal to lock an unsubsidised phone and force you to use a certain Network as confirmed to me by OFCOM which is no where close to what you have said.
Secondly unless they suddenly implement a new set of terms and conditions and change the current sales model where you buy your iPhone from one of three retailers outright and you own it i can foresee problems for them ahead.
There is no contract involved and as it has been confirmed to me that you can buy a special iPhone PAYG Sim there is no contract involved there either so there can be no additional contract cost to recoup. No one can force you to use an unsubsidized device on only one Network which is exactly what 02 are trying to do this quite simply is not legal.
Also as we know from the iPhones that have been hacked and unlocked there really is no need to either activate them via iTunes or use a special Sim Card these are both restrictive practices put in place by 02 and Apple to guarantee their incomes and if as currently believed users buy and own their iPhones this practice is illegal.
Sorry if i have repeated the points i have previously made but some of the things being stated in this thread are just not correct IMO.
Marc

i dont think it really matters to the average person that there is a 200mb limit on the £7.50 data bolton that O2 are going to be giving. 200MB is more than enough for most people that I know including myself, well for myself i get 75MB free as part as my priceplan and i use the internet quite a lot and it does me just fine on my mobile. For those who are complaining that its not enough, then if they want to go to t mobile or whoever thats der own opinion but i would say that 200MB is enough for the average user IMHO |
