So, you think these reviewers are talking crap? How long have you been using your iPhone for? Obviously you think you're better qualified to make such statements without being anywhere near one! I look forward to your review.
But, clearly from all these reviews (by people who've actually used one for a few weeks), the iPhone is not crap - and far from it. They all say basically the same thing. It's a breakthrough device, but not perfect.
It must be terrible for someone who so badly wants the the iPhone to be crap, to have to read positive reviews stating that its not... |

I agree.
Phones that shoot high resolution pictures and video are almost the norm in Europe and Asian markets and are advancing all the time. The iPhone seems to be moving in a different direction altogether, which is why I can't see it being any threat just yet.

Yes, the technical specifications of the iPhone aren't anything revolutionary. Other phones have the same or better specs in almost all areas.
Clearly, the main area of innovation in the iPhone is the user-interface and touch-screen. Name another device that comes anywhere close in this area.
I read somewhere that 90% of high-end phone features go unused by 90% of people. However, the user-interface is used 100% of the time, by 100% of people.

I've had a bit of a play with the the TouchFlo interface on the new HTC Touch and that is pretty cool

I think they have taken a big risk by ditching the traditional keypad.
However, whereby Mobile manufacturers create devices that are predominantly telephones, I see the iPhone as a device which is less of a phone and more of a media device; its emphasis has taken the features that would be considered secondary on mobiles and given them bigger priority.

Just responding to another thread, which has rightfully been locked.
@shaliron: You seem to be forgetting a few things:
No one ever claimed the iPhone is perfect. No phone is perfect for everyone. Even the W960 or N95 are not perfect.
This is a v1.0 release. The first phone made by Apple.
How many phones has it taken SE or Nokia to reach W960 or N95 level? They must be v60.0 releases by now over many years.
Apple will be updating the iPhone software, so some of the omissions could be added at a later date.
Also, Flash is NOT supported in the browser, at all.
So, yes, you're right - it is not a perfect phone. But no phone is.
For a first release, I think it's not a bad start.

So, do you think the iPhone will be a hit in the US? How bout in England? How about the world? For me they will not get what they expect, they are still new to the cell phone industry...but experience make better products right? So iPhone v2.0 maybe better...hehe

Id love to get an IPhone, but ive just got an 18 month contract, so ill be looking forward to V2.0, but listen to JoolsG4 hes right, there maybe some annoying features, but SEs P990 was late, and even then it took ages to get the firmware right didnt it. Then theres Nokia (Ithink it was the N80? that had lots of Bugs) I mean come on apple are on their first phone after all everyone has to start somewhere. |

I think the Second and Third Generation iPhones may well be the ones to look out for. They will be more refined and higher specced than the initial version.

Well, it's been said, I've said, and I've maintained that the iPhone is not a perfect phone.
I do like its huge screen, remarkably good battery life, and revolutionary interface. But, it has flaws which other manufacturers would be severely criticised for leaving out. It's shameful for such an expensive device.
Just look at the list:
- The fancy interface itself takes up 700MB of the internal memory. That's called bloated.
- There's no way to cut, copy, or paste text.
- No A2DP.
- MP3s cannot be used as ringtones.
Even low end phones from SE, Nokia and Moto can do that. Even the RAZR!
- Flash is only supported in the browser, no other types of embedded video files.
- A 2 megapixel, non-AF, flashless camera which can't record video.
No video is utter crap! And we complain about QCIF...
- No voice dialling or MMS or IM.
- Non-replacable battery.
- No EDGE or 3G.
Wi-fi does not make up for that.
- You can't buy songs from the phone. You'll need a computer for that.
- No games!
- The virtual keyboard doesn't beat the real thing - nor standard T9.
Reasons why I'd much rather the W960 or N95.

Its their first phone, give them a break!
Its unacceptable for others to have it because they're experienced in this department.
Thirdly, iphone has EDGE.

As I already stated, Flash is not supported on the phone at all, not even in the browser.
It's not just the fancy interface that takes up 700mb - remember there's the whole OS X operating system in there.
Why would you want to buy songs from the phone over the slow EDGE network? If it had 3G then maybe you would, but I'd still prefer to buy them from my computer via ADSL.
No games (yet) - companies have already announced they're working on iPhone games.
Do you know the virtual keyboard doesn't beat the 'real' thing? From what the reviewers say (currently the only independent people able to comment), it takes a few days to get used to, and one of them said after 5 days he was typing as quickly on the iPhone as on a 'normal' smartphone with 'real' (cramped tiny button) keyboard. We all had to get used to T9 once upon a time.
As people keep saying - this is just a v1.0 - think back to Sony Ericsson's v1.0 smartphone. |

It may be their first phone, but that doesn't mean that it gives them the right to remove simple features like MMS, video recording or MP3 ringtones. Those type of omissions aren't because of 'limited experience', is really just a case of doing-it-because-they-can.
And also, if you're new to the marketplace, it should be expected that you make your phone to the standard of other devices on the market (especially if you're charging so much for the phone).
Microsoft makes the Zune. Now they wouldn't be treated as kindly if they left something like video playback or picture viewing now would they?
