Whilst on one hand it is pretty stupid for the vast majority of people, to go out and buy the newest handset on the market, when their current one is perfectly good for the job, there are some of us to which image does count, and I don't mean 'showing off your phone in the playground'. Take me for instance, if I go to meet clients to brag about our companies new technologies and then I pull out my 8210 to answer a call, they wouldn't think anything of it, but if I pulled out the top of the market best you can buy new phone/gadget made my call, went on the net, registered a domain, sent an e-mail etc. it would give my client serious confidence that our company is doing well and has tip top tech, image and impressions do mean a lot in the world of technology!! |

Or they might think you are a flash bugger who is going to sting them to buy your next toy, Seriously, I know what you mean though cos i do face to face business & a tasty gadget can make good conversation "off" the main reason for you being there, which relaxes people..........thats it......i`ve justified buying one also.... |

Option after my 12th period? Umm? If you mean it's an option with your contract, sure, but not for people that spend a hundred times more than you to buy the phone SIM free and unlocked. Secondly, a one year old phone doesn't exactly make it less reliable than a new phone. Even so, the new released phones now have been very disappointing anyways.

Unfortunately it does. A one year old phone is very likely to break quite soon. This is because the mobile manufacturers design the components of the phone with a 1 to 2 year life span. If they designed the phones to have a longer life then they would be too expensive. There would be little point in that as the main market is yearly contract phones.
For that reason I really can't see the point in buying a phone outright.

Oh? If that were so, they wouldn't still be selling phones that are already two or more years of age in many telephone shops. |

Kurt Hellstrom himself (Ericsson CEO) said that SE will come out with five new phones this year. It wasn't clear however if the P800 and T100 were included in these five, but it's still a couple of phones |

Yes. I've left France a year ago before, and I come back now to the same Orange shop that still has the same phones on the same shelf being sold with people picking on them. But of course they have some added new phones, but many people still buy the older models, even on a contract. Not to mention many people still use lots of older phones here.
So the theory about phones becoming unreliable after a year or two is false.

um... they may be the same model but theyre not the same phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats like saying that if you buy a record, by an artist from the '60s, it's been sitting in the shop for 40 years - I seriously wonder about some people......

Of course it's probably not the same phone, but the date of manufacture on the label says well past 2000. |
