I've noticed that occasionally, if I hold down the NO button to exit the menu back to the desktop, it sometimes plays the "shutting down beeps" and then dims the screen... although it doesn't switch off.

The phone can be used as normal, but with a dim screen.

I have to switch off and on to correct the brightness!?!

Ooooh, I've been messing around with my t68i, and here's what I found:

I'll indicate the start-up/down tones as (up: ///) and (down: \\\)

Hold NO (Power On) - Plays ///
Hold NO (Power Off) - Plays \\\

(Here comes the odd bit....

Tap NO, then Tap YES/Joystick (Power On) - No Sound!

then if you then Hold No (either at the PIN screen or the desktop),
the phone Powers Off, but plays a NEW sound with 4 tones !!!

However, if you enter the menu or phonebook first, then you
Hold No, the phone will play the /// tones and dim the screen.
Then Holding No will turn the phone off as usual, playing \\\.

NB: Once the screen has dimmed, it will return to it's normal
brightness if you let it go off (clock) and back on again.

What's with all this power oddness???

I do not think this feature is usefull for the user. It is much more annoying than its usage.

Probably would be better if there was a seperate On/Off button that wasn't so prominent but too late for that now...

I think you should read what I said before.

and YES my computer does NOT restart when I press ctrl+alt+del!!!
infact you can't restart NT like that.
And NO you cant allways press ctrl+alt+del when a system crashes.
sometimes you must hard reset it or pull the plug, ctrl+alt+del are software reset.

and its much harder to accidentally hold down 3 keys that are located at diffrent places on the keybord, than press/hold 1 button, maby even one of the most accessible button on T68

and its hard to "get over it" when you miss alot of calls everyday, if you cant see the problem with that maby you should think about why you purchase a phone!! If the biggest reason was the games, then end of discussion.

If you ctrl alt del in NT you get the menu with the task manager and change password etc. Maybe a better example is a one way pc power switch. I have mine programed so if i press once it intiates shutdown, but if teh pc crashes i have to hold it in for 4 seconds.

Anyway, what pocket do u have ur phone in for it to have the keys permanently sqaushed? You wear "skin tight" pants or sommat lol
