dude, one piece of advice: if customer service doesn't do it for you, don't despair.... just do the following....

get distilled water (water w/o electrolytes and / or impurities).
give your cellphone another dip on it (w/o mem, sim & batt, of course ) and stir it up for a good 2-3 minutes

after that, pour the rest of the distilled water on it, leave it dry for a good ol' 2-3 days, and see if it works....

the problem tah comes from your phone getting into the water is not that water has fallen on it. the problem is that the water from your toilet tends to have in it lotsa substances dissolved, wich tend to sediment between the circuits of your cellphone, often producing short-circuits when powered again.

water alone won't damage a cellphone: it's mostly everything else that is dissolved in it that increases its conductivity......

hope that my answer helps you dude.......

I'm NOT sure about: xnuo's IDEA here It's like putting SALT to an open wound if I may say . . . though I am concern much too if there WERE something floating on the toilet bowl when it was dropped . . . say like, poo-poos or urine those TWO substance can KILL humans for all we know, what more to a celfone?

@rob- Keep us upadated here still mate? You said that's your ONLY fone - K750i . . . if so, why did you choose the W850i avatar pal? Nice image perhaps? [addsig]

my phone stopped working after what i said to everyone on the 1st page, after the first few hours of using it the joystick stopped working the music and volume buttons stopped aswell and i can't do without them, i don't feel confident repairing it myself, either by cleaning it or washing it etc.

Anyway, i could get it repaired but i don't want to pay for repairs, instead i decided to upgrade to a newer phone, this time i'm trying a walkman phone (W850i) as reviews i have read about the problems people had with SE joysticks have put me off since the purchase of my K750i, and effetively other SE joystick phones. As the w850i doesn't have a joystick i hope it will be better for me and won't go wrong, i am gong to be extra careful this time around and am not taking it anywhere near water. i'm buying it a cover to protect it i don't want it damaged at all.

That explains why i have it as my picture thing with my name because i'm getting it.

BTW do you know how to change the name on your profile, on esato? because when i click the profile button there is no drop down for it and i cannot click it to change it. because i no longer own a k750, i would like to change it.

and seeing everyone else names i find mine a bit lame.

@*Jojo* - i thought it was time i moved on and i really liked the looks of the w950i and the features. I have now got the phone and it is exactly what i wanted in a phone for so long!

Thanks for the link to the other thread, i wouldn't have known about the cracking problem before. I'm just going to have to try and not push too hard and be careful with it. But hey i love it so far, and i hope i won't be one of the unlucky ones to have their D pads crack!

Thanks again to everyone for all of your help,

Rob.

Heres a lesson for you guys who can't seem to be parted from their phones, even when in the can.
I dropped my T610 into water sometime ago, it was a rainy day, and it fell out of my breast pocket when I attempted to jump over a puddle. I got the battery and SIM out, and when I got home I opened the phone and used contact cleaner (The one that comes in spray cans) to clean the main board and left it behind the heat exhaust of my air conditioner for a whole day. Its still working till this day. Maybe I was just lucky? or was it the contact cleaner that saved the phone?
Let go and let God

@rob - About that CRACKING-keypad issue on the W850i . . . I even double-checked that with my friend who owns a celfone-shop, and yes, she confirmed that some of her customer's returned the fone because of the CRACK . . . sooner or later you will GOT it too, if you will buy one (I guess . . .). Because you will keep on pressing on the keypad everytime you are using it . . .

@amby - You are LUCKY mate . . . as your T610 did not DIE when it fell on water . . . this calls for a celebration ! [addsig]

@jojo, could you confirm that sony will fix it free of charge under the warranty or will they claim it is normal wear and tear because they don't cover that do they.

I hope i'm lucky and it doesn't happen to me in a long while, i know people who have had them for 5 months and they have had no problems, i hope i am the same. Just have to wait and see!

Anyone else have advice on weather i should keep my new W850 i got from play.com which i bought for £170, or send it back get a refund because it is within the refund limit and then re-buy it for £150 as they are now selling it for.

@rob - So, you already got yourself a W850i I think even if the keypad will have a CRACK (eventually due to:wear and tear) . . . it will NOT have any effects on the prformance of the fone specially when texting or what . . . if I were you I'll canvass for the price of the THING that cracks . . . if it's just CHEAP, then I think you better KEEp your W850i - and ENJOY it . . . I know that you are a careful-guy, so I think that will NOT become a problem even in the LONG-run [addsig]

@jojo, cheers, yeh you're right about me being careful, especially with my K750i.

Yes i have bought myself a w850i and have had it since thursday, i was just a bit worried about the D pad, thats why i asked.

Did you happen to find out from your friend who is a mobile phone shop owner if she thinks sony will repair it under the warranty or not? I just don't really want to have to pay for repairs after i bought the phone at the maximum limit of what i would spend on a phone. In the W850i forum for the cracking D pad some people said they had theirs fixed under the warranty and some said they had to pay. Just curious to find out.

Thanks again, Rob

@rob - My friend's celfone-shop-store does NOT offer any replace-parts-warranty . . only a replace-unit within 1 week (but she gives me up to 3 weeks, since I'm a REGULAR-customer . . .) and I never had experience returning back an or even a Nokia unit brought from her store since some years back . . . I heard from other local-peeps here that the KEYPAD of their W850 WAS replaced when it - cracked (under warranty) . . .

It's your choice now mate . . . to SELL your W850i or KEEP it, but with EXTRA-care on the keypad as NOT to break [addsig]

hehe,how come~~~
We, a lot of friends around me, ever gave me advice which sounds like joking.but you can try...
Take off the batt, then cover it with thin cloth or soft paper, turn on the light, put the phone under the light, and very close to the light.
After 12 hours,or even more, the water may dry off.
Maybe it can work,i`ve no idea,haha...

Stick it in cat litter for a week. That will suck any moisture out.
