I'm really suprised they can't just activate 3G on your account-they must be givin out really old SIM cards and not the 64k one's most other networks have for last few years to avoid this problem!

A 3G is more then 64k if you look on a 2g sim most start with 894412 then the first numbers are 14 16 or 18 they are called profile numbers the 3G sims are profile 33

Orange 3G Sims start at Profile no 23

Orange Normaly will not give you a Free 3g sim card even through retention.

Sorry you have to purchase 3g sim card from the Orange Shop which are £5, When you ring orange customer care (PAYG) then they will change your profile over to the new simcard.

If you are on Contract then you will not get a 3g sim card no matter what unless you purchase a 3g phone from Orange.

Orange has a policy that the Sim Card belongs to the phone. So if you are on contract and buy a 2g phone then the sim is registered to use all the services on that phone correctly. They are not saying that the sim card wont work in other phones but you may not be able to use all the functions.

3 have the same policy

vodafone and o2 work on a different system and will alloy you to obtain a new sim card for free (This is not always the case tho and its done on a person to person basis)

T-mobile and Virgin have both been very clever, All there sim cards have been 3g active for the last 3 years (Even tho there was no network) all you need to do i ring them and they will activate it for you. (Saves on simcards, costs and hassle).

Yes I also agree that for the network sake put 3g ready sim cards in all the phones, This then will save the cusotmer, network, cost, enviroment and time for every one, The cusotmer is happy and network are happier asthey get the revenue from it.

However Orange dont see it like that. As Orange phones are now very heavy in there own crap branding then you are bound to use there services through the phone which gives them the revenue back quicker.

I will let you int a little of inside info, Customer care hate the Orange branding phone and buy the phones sim free or from 02 on a contract with them.

@Dj Boyi
That may be the case.

The last i was told that orange was using 23 but 13 sounds about right.

13,23,33 (3) seems to indicate a 3g location base station
