I have an 850i on Orange and have the same problem. My mate with the same phone on vodaphone has the flash menus and I don't.
What are the implications of de-branding? |

I am a themer and am using the latest theme creator v3 and we cannot use flash files to make themes unless some one here knows of any other program, flash is not possible. There is another way and that is to covert flash files to gifs. That's as good as it gets I'm afraid

Ok, to enable all of the flash themes you need to debrand your phone. Some operators allow you to use one or two, and some don't allow any of them.
Debrand your phone and you can use them. One is called Orange Bubbles, grouped, and female line. If anyone knows of another one please send it to me, cause I only have three.

There is also one called Walkman, it's white and orange. Can anyone please let me know how to debrand a phone? What will I loose, and what will I gain? |

Yea, I got my phone on 3G (www.three.com.hk), and the flash menus don't work, but the flash screens work, I hate that, and also the shut down screen is a big three, how do I change it? In settings I can only change the open screens and screen-saver. Anyone help? |

My w850 has four, Female line, grouped, bubbles and walkman. I'm on a virgin contract with no noticable branding so far. |

well the only way is to flash your fone's firamware, however you would end up voiding your warranty. Flashing and debranding would enable the flash themes as some service providers disable them |

Here's the procedure (for W810 phones, anyway. Guess it's the same for W850, except that the swf-files are named differently):
Guide originally by DJ Unique on Esato. With minor edits by me.
W810i How To Guide: Flash Menu for all Themes
Here are the instructions on how to edit any W810i theme to use one of the 3 flash menus that are pre-installed on the handset. It's a bit tricky but, but should work like a charm.
You first need to download/make the theme you want to use the flash menu with.
Once you have the theme, you will notice that it has a file name like xxxxxx.thm
In order to edit this file you need the following software:
Tar Compiler: www.tugzip.com
XML Editor: www.philo.de/xmledit/
Install both of the above onto your PC.
The next step is to rename the theme extension to Tar file.
If you can't view the extensions of the files on your computer, then you need to enable it in Windows (in Windows Explorer – Tools – Folder Options – View – and then uncheck 'Hide extensions for know file types'.
Rename xxxxxx.thm to xxxxxx.tar
Now double click on xxxxxx.tar and it will open the archive in Tug Zip. You will now see a number of image files and a theme.xml file.
Extract all the contents of the archive to a folder on your computer, and then open the theme.xml file with the xml editor that you downloaded and installed above.
Just before the line stating:
Code:
enter this line:
Code:
You can use any one of the 3 flash menus inside the handset (orbit.swf, emerge.swf and equalizer.swf). For the W850 I've found: femaleLine_desktop.swf, orangeBubbles_desktop.swf and grouped_desktop.swf.
Once you have done this, you will need to click file save as, and make sure that you save it as an .xml file.
Now you need to convert all the files back to a .thm file.
Locate the folder on your computer where you extracted the original archive, highlight all the files and right click. You should see a green arrow that says 'add to' ON ITS OWN! Click on it.
Ok where it says format, select TAR from the drop down.
In the field labelled 'name' you should see the location as to where the Tar archive will be saved. Makes sure you know the location, and name it to what you what you want the theme to be called. i.e. xxxxxx.tar
Click on ok.
Now rename xxxxxx.tar to xxxxxx.thm and upload it to your phone.

@lo little
Would that work on a branded w850 handset or would it have to be debranded?
