if you're on your router you wont be charged...
You only get charged if you're using GPRS

A wifi icon will be on the bottom next to the globe which means you will not be charged.

I'm only guessing, but it looks to me like Sony Ericsson is possibly using a similar implementation of wi-fi in the P990 as in the discontinued Sony Clié devices (i have a TH-55) which were also 802.11b. In my experience it was a never guaranteed that you'd be able to join even unprotected networks. My fingers were usually crossed and often I was disappointed for I couldn't use a network properly (networks were detected, logging on to them seemed to work (sometimes) but net traffic did not always flow - as with current P990 users).
If this is true, then it's quite sad that this old technology is being used. And also there is no excuse for the lack of 802.11g. But like I say, I'm only guessing... |

I can connect to my Wireless network, but then everytime I try to surf the 'net I get "could not locate remote server".
Anybody got any ideas? Thanks. |

I had the same problem. In my work I culd not fix it, but at home the problem was the password (it was incorrect).
The problem was that it connects with the wrong password, but no surf.

Sorted it now. I used the settings put in the other thread about this. I recommend ppl have a look at that thread and just double check things. Sadly I think it's a case of trial and error |

I think I've got the answer for the ppl who face the "Cannot connect to Server" message (or something similar). It revolves around the WEP key; basically the P990i doesn't seem to be able to save the preference to select any other WEP key than #1. If you choose another key ie. #2+, even when you save the profile, if you then look at the settings it defaults to WEP key #1. This was the problem for me anyway.
Therefore all I did was free up the #1 WEP key and used it for my P990i and bingo, everything works! See if that works and get back to me |
