first sapporobaby, i understand where you are coming from? but there is people out there who want a maintenance free phone and may not have much knowledge of phones in general, secondly theres no need to get personal with me in saying i have a problem, i dont, im just not a lover of the joystick, im 100% se, i wouldnt have a nokia at all because i have had them also and theyre rubbish because you have to pay a lot more for features already in the SE's which are cheaper. I think SE just needs to tread more careful altho dont get me wrong i think its an excellant device when it comes to ease of use, but its just not durable. D-pads last for ever and that you dont need to maintain them either, like game consoles for instance, what do they use?? d-pads and maybe a combo of joystick + d-pad. I suppose it is personal preference, but il not a have a joystick in me phone. As for the 11-12 people, id say more than that with the same problem.

@Chunk-meister,

Did not mean to offend. I mean/meant that maybe you are very hard on the joysticks. i.e. pushing a bit harder, etc.... I have had joystick phones since the t68i(still love that phone), and not one joystick problem. Check your joystick counter to see much mileage you have on your stick to date.

Wouldn't it b better to ask SE to put a joystick replacement kit on the market? IMO SE must be already aware of the problems with their joystick phones, and they probably think they have improved it since.
I certainly hope so, 'cause I now own a K800i which I really like. I wasn't really waiting for a new joystick SE, but still prefered it to the W810i, my second choice.

Although i prefer d-pads ala the T230...i have used phones with joysticks and have had no problems with them.. Although i do feel joysticks are vulnerable to the atrocities committed on them by wap nerds like me!
T230 >> T610 >> Ngage QD >> N73 >> N85 >> Omnia HD >> And countless other review units

No joystick problems here from my T68i, T610, K700, K750 and now K800, so I don't think I'll be signing your petition!

I must say that I have never had joy stick problems myself but then I'm paranoid about dust and moisture so am very careful.

I can however say that it IS a major Sony Ericsson problem and anyone saying otherwise is only fooling themselves. I see this issue time and time again and whilst I can always wright it off as being rough usage on the owners side, it's just not something that should happen! Phones regularly get heavy use and these joy sticks just aren't up to the job.

I would personally rather that SE put D pads on their phones, or at the very least, vastly improved the insulation.
The car in front is absolutely unique apart from the one behind it which is exactly the same. Murray Walker

@ CHUNKY
I am with you chunky...... The sony ercisson K series Joystick SUCKKKKKKKKKKKS . All of those who found the SE joystick nice are either light or moderate users. I ve had the worst experience with the joysticks and I had already posted a thread on this long back. Normally I am an extreme mobile user.... Quite often I use my mobile for more than 12 hours a day. My first SE joystick phone J200i had my finger literally inflammed ( I had to apply bandage) and the joystick was almost dead in like 2 months. And then I bought k300i. Initially I found the joystick slightly better since it was a bit too sensitive but then i often ended up overscrolling in wap pages. But in just a month it was again not responding, esp the downward scrolling since I use that movement very often in wap. Playing games will only decrease its life expectancy. And then I tried my mom`s J300i and my bro`s k608i. They all seem to be havin the same problem. But the k608i joystick was the better version of any se joystick I ve seen. Then finally, I ended up goin for d-pad and i bought w550i.
HMMMMM... WHAt a ReliEf !!!!
The w550i d-pad is the best navigation device I ve ever seen on a SE mobile. Its been 7 months already with hundreds of hours of heavy gaming and browsing and still my d-pad is as solid as new . As far as I remember I ve never misfired any movement till now. It fits nicely under my thumb and doesnt cause any strain to my thumb ball. Also, its design wont accumulate much dirt in it. To be honest, joystick is the only reason why I chose for w550i rather than a w800i and I got no regrets.
If SE wants to continue releasing joystick models, they may think of using some rubbery material and also widening its trigger axis. But I am with the d-pad when it comes to SE.

I can't stand my k750's joystick. It's great when it works, but that usually lasts only a week. I have to take it into get serviced so I don't blow my warranty, it usually takes a week for it to get back to me.

A D-pad seems the way forward but I'm curious about the Sidekick 3's trackball. I imagine that it's like the ones you used to find in laptops. Has anyone seen what they're like? I remember reading a review that gushed about it's trackball. It sounds like a good idea.

I live in Aust, so i'll never get to see one (unless it get's put into other handsets).

many of my friends didn't buy sony because of the joystick. i have a w800i and the dust is annoying when it gets in. I have brought a joystick cap and there is no more problems. they didn't make a joystick for the w850i. sweet.
