Would guess that this gadget could give the mobile wifi-phones a real boost.

Wonder why it doesn't use the nee M2 Memory Card instead of the old Duo? |

cause M2 Memory card was too small for it size! ok seriously, what's the highest capacity for M2 memory card .. AFAIK Pro-duo are at least 4gb~6gb(? not sure ) .. and i doubt it will choose Pro-Duo instead of M2 memory card

4GB duos are now available with 8GB coming later this year, early next year. You can only get up to 1GB M2s this year with 2GB and possibly 4GB coming next year.

Well since its a sony ill probably but it, it does look sexy as hell. But i have a psp and that does it all, plus gaming. Ok so i imagine this device is smaller and weighs less, I wouldnt carry my psp with me as its chunky but I dont see the point in owning this as well.
What I really want to see is wifi on our phones, Se phones that is, like on the N80. Why cant we have w900's and k800's with wifi? that would be very nice. Is the p990 still having wifi?

actually Mylo name remind me of a Chocolate beverage from Nestle.....MILO hahahaha....give you energy to keep going
To me, Mylo is more like an answer from Sony to Apple's iPOD.
iPOD video can...play back song and video
Mylo can....play back song, video, access internet and best of all....access into all the commonly used IM or chat services which kids love.
however it might not be able to replace phone, that can only happen if everyone quit using phone services and go for IM service as a way for voice/text communication regardless where they are ...plus wifi coverage is same as mobile network coverage.
I believe there's a reason why Sony launch in on the week. Apple have their WWDC conf. I am not suprise they expect Apple to come out with something new in the iPOD range...BUT surprises is...Apple have none!!!
Now if only Steve Job have a second session on his keynote adress session...or they plan for something at the end of the day...else to me. Sony get something tht finally can challenge iPOD. |

Found this video of a working mylo.
What i dont like is that they're pricing this a 100$ more than the psp, thats about 350$.Why would anyone pay so much when they get 90% of what it can do in a psp + psp can play high quality games and this can't play games AT ALL.And most of us have got cell phones for the other stuff
Also i see nothing new or different here, the design is a lift from the sidekick, features offer nothing new like sumthing you haven't seen before, and even the name is a rip-off from a milk product.
And we're talking about SONY here.

I know its not a mobile phone...i was just hopeing that Sony would release this with GSM capabilities i.e: a phone version of the same thing...after all it is a skype/wi-fi phone so it would'nt be difficult to do.

It would be nice as a phone, but I doubt it. I can't imagine SE or Ericsson would be too chuffed at Sony releasing a handset on their own. I suppose Sony might allow SE to use a similar design though.

I'm pretty sure both Sony and Ericsson agreed not to launch mobile phones of their own. The fact Sony bring out the Mylo doesn't indicate an intention to launch back into mobile phone manufacture, not even by a long shot.
Putting GSM in the mylo would entail a complete redesign - hardware, os, space requirements, everything would need to be redesigned. Wifi and Mobile telephony are still quite different technologies. The Mylo can in no way be seen as a potential platform for a mobile phone, so imho it's release isn't a sign of Sony wanting to break the agreement with SE regarding mobile phones.
Another factor to consider, SE show no sign of releasing wifi phones, so Sony's release of a wifi device doesn't breach any of SE's markets.

The P990 has Wi-Fi. I think SE will probably release more Wi-Fi handsets, possibly next year; perhaps they felt this year wasn't the time to seriously go into Wi-Fi. To be fair Wi-Fi isn't really required on anything but smartphones at the moment and since SE has a relatively small pool of smartphones it isn't too surprising that only one has Wi-Fi at this time. Having said that, it does seem a bit of a shame that the M600 doesn't have Wi-Fi.

Wifi would be very useful in non-smartphones - if K800 can use bluetooth pan to connect to a computer's internet connection, imagine if it had wifi! However from a space point of view we will probably only see wifi on P990 for a year or so yet.
btw, I realise P990 has wifi, but it is a gsm/umts phone as well - the Mylo will not be converted to a traditional mobile phone IMHO - You can't just "bringout a gsm version" of the mylo, it would entail a completely different product, so therefore the Mylo cannot really be considered a sign of intended competition by Sony in the mobile phone market.
If we do see a mobile phone from Sony then I'll eat my words, but I'm pretty confident we won't see a gsm version of the Mylo.

I don't see Wifi being of use in mobile phones long term as the BT Special Interest Group (SIG) are working on 100 Mbps Hi-speed BT.
(Wifi is 54Mbps - at least my router is).
People who are comparing this to the PSP and calling for GSM / UMTS / EDGE versions are missing the point. This is Skype and Internet Connection but in a go-anywhere mobile format.
The trouble is, open wifi networks are few and far between and Skype / IM takeup, especially downunder is very slow indeed.
That Mylo site seems to be hinting that this type of voice / internet communication on the move via free Wifi is the future of mobile communications, but I feel that Sony are too far ahead of the market for this to work anywhere but perhaps Asia.
