@Boba: Not quite two months, for example in South Africa unlike the UK we only have 24-month contracts but in the 20th month you can choose to have a free upgrade. By that time your phone is so knackered it's crying out to be retired to nearest rubbish heap

Anyone in South Africa want to buy a bruised but still functioning P910i? Just send me a PM.

Take my good old trustsy T630. Flew through the air, crashed on concrete, barely a scratch on it. Always working well. Unfortunatley, it got lost last winter.

@ResidentEvil: I don't think it got lost, it might have ran off to avoid further abuse.
@Boba: Some members of Esato are the exception, most people buy a phone maybe ever 18 months, if I had to buy a new phone every six months I'd be broke.

@brix thats clear, i wrote my point of view and the way i manage my needs. anyway, wish sE would give more attention for the quality of their fones, not just for the covers, more for the fw aswell. plastic is cheap, indeed, but at least some aparts of the fone could be done from better materials.

yeh me too about the money side....i'm a teen so rather skint....i'd love to upgrade again now....and i could with the money i've got...i just know i'll need to push myself through uni when i go so i'm not spending much at the moment...well....uni is like 4years away....its getting nearer.......

and also, the joystick issue. se actually patented the joystick, and there is none other as good build quality. yes the others may be 'joystick'-like, but they are infact buttons on the inside with a slider/piece of plastic/metal that hits them. i also believe that the k600/k608/v600 joystick is of brilliant build quality, and much better than that of the k700. but also, with my next phone i am going to be very tempted to go over to the darkside (moto/nokia)....they just seem to have better build quality (e.g moto slvr l7!)

as always correct me if wrong on anything.

Have you tried a V3x? That creaks worse than any SE could ever creak. I had one for a couple of weeks and was very disappointed especially as the V3i that I had was so well put together. The problem was that the V3x was plastic where the V3i was metal mostly.

Yeah it would be nice, but the way I look at it is... SonyE's are high tech, high luxury type phones... so you need to be more carefull and not drop them, sit on them etc etc. Cause they are made with more detail etc etc....

I dropped my K750 in the pool and still regret it, I'm using a Nokia 6000 something (dont remember number, but its the generic cheap ass nokia u get at T-mobile, ugly gray color) anyways that Nokia is solid as hell in build quality, you could drop it, throw it, slam it, use it in a bar fight and still make calls afterwards.

But I still WANT SonyE!

Why? The Design, The Technology, The Interface, The Customization

Waiting for the K800s to get sold on wireless imports.

You know you still have to remember that there are still people who want a phone and to keep and use it for the entire life of their contract. I don't like spending hundreds of dollars on something that feels cheap or isn't built to last. I know SE has great technology, interface and design but if you compare them to others, they are really skimping. Not to mention that it gives them a very bad reputation in the public.

not sure of the model number but yeah, i was referring to one with the metal finish... even my old motorola v60 (metal finish clamshell) was a very well put together phone...

Owned a bunch of SE phones and the only issue I ever had with them, specifically the K700, was the joystick. I'm not referring to creaks and funny noises, those are things I can happily live with.

I currently own a P910i, haven't smashed it against walls but it has suffered the occasional fall- fortunately not on concrete- and I haven't had any problems.

I've got an N70 and it's built quality is not superior to the P910i, in fact I find it to be slightly more plasticky then the P910i.

Those who complain that a phone has to be indestructible are fooling themselves, modern phones are not built to last longer then two years.

In Japan the build quality of phones are even worse because the manufacturers/networks want their customers to constantly upgrade their phones.

Hi brix25 I don’t think any of us has asked for” indestructible” phones merely for phones that are well constructed, other manufacturers manage it, so why not Sony Ericsson? I bought my girlfriend a Moto V3i if my P910i was built as well I would have nothing to complain about at all!

As for fooling ourselves? Not so, but there are many people who are not like us phone addicts, and once they get a phone they like they will stick with it until it fails there is nothing wrong with that at all sure technology moves on but that is not a good enough reason to provide poor quality products in the first place.

As for the Japanese market, if the consumer there is daft enough to swallow that kind of treatment more fool them It was the same story with cars in Europe don’t forget, the manufacturers used to turn out cars that rusted to bits the second you bought them, and with locks a three year old could pick until their customers and the insurance companies said enough is enough I want quality products and if SE cannot or will not provide them we should make it clear through sites such as ESATO it is not good enough
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot.

Agree. My P910 is also scarcely a year old and has spent most of that year cocooned in a krusell pouch . Still the paint is starting to flake off the flip. Cheap plasticky finishes do not do a phone like this justice.
If they could give it something like the finish on the N70 say...
Shall we start a petition to SE ? Or do you think some of their people visit these forums regularly ?
Anyone know what the P990 casing feels like ?

I think a petition is a good idea I am not sure how we would do it though, I seem to remember there were a number of threads here in the past that allowed us to vote on things perhaps one of the mods could set something up?

quantity is over quality now a days. brands save money mainly at the manufacturing, its business, so a petition is a nice idea, but no use. se will say maybe, thx for it and then ad acta...
