Hmmm, this seems plain strange to me...i mean come on...if it wasn't an open forum...how would we all be here in the firts place...
I don't know about everyone here, but i certainly found this forum when experiencing problmes with my se handset...i searched for help, and along came esato.com....form there i realised how great a community this place actually is...
This forum is here to help everyone and should be open to view for everyone...

Well some topics or threads in this forum (like Spartan GPRS trick), etc are not safe to be open. This threads must be in member area. Without membership should not be given access.
When people search in Google or any other search engine then link to that topic and little description will be shown in search result. Then people who are interested in known more will definately join.
I personally feel, If I get little information on a topic from any forum when I search in google, then I will join that forum to get membership priveleges and access the topic fully.
I do agree open forum is good for new comers, but dont agree full access to general public without membership. Atleast some threads should be locked and only members should have access to it.
There must be something special for members so that it attracts more memberships.
And Member's should be allowed to load personal avatar's instead of just SE images.

I cant remeber why i joined esato, i think it was something to do with my k700.
Then i got more an more into discissions then videos now i have a site of my very own, so being a member allows you to participate in the forum, not just being a voyeur  .
I prefer it open if it werent i wouldnt know what i do today!

I think that having this forum blocked to the public is kinda selfish. If it weren't for google and a bit of reading, I would have never registered.
You also have to remember that this is a commercial site, so by restricting this site to let's say 100,000 members, it's a lot of lost revenue for the site.
IMO I don't see the point of having more members. I wouldn't want to join a forum which restricts you to reading say the first post of a topic and that's it. How would you know about the really good dynamics in the forum?
And the SE phone avatars are great! It may seem boring at first but it keeps this forum nice and simple. No annoying signatures or avatars. I lie esato the way it is (and would be even better if we could centre the text/thread area )

ok, so it seems we are agreed about Esato being an open forum so before everyone starts posting here about how they found Esato, those who have not already done so can continue to comment on that in the following thread please
