@axxxr
Whether it be one or two towers I think they should have committed to building a much larger building(s), perhaps the tallest in the world.

I like the design of that 'Freedom Tower' but I reckon it's cheating to include such a tall mast in the height when going for the Worlds Tallest Building record.
The original WTC site had 7 buildings on it. Will the new site have only 1?

I would have prefered two new towers instead of just the one...I think the new york skyline just isn't the same with just one.

here are the pictures i have personally taken. if i have a description, it is under each image. let me know what you think.
This picture is actually the building NEXT TO (it was to the left, if you were stanging at the front of the buildings) where it happened. it damaged the building, so they had to re-do parts of it.
The same building, with a little bit of Ground Zero
This is the bulding to the right. See the Cross? also?
A better view of that cross. It was left standing. the only thing left standing. i dont know if it was natural, or if they cut it or whatever, but i thought it wsa kinda cool.
Me and my sister standing in front of it. They have it all blocked off really well.
A sign in front
A sign on the fence, and you can see part of GZ (ground zero).
 GZ...
 GZ again...
 and again...
and thats all i have... i KNOW i have more, i just have to come across them. those are the best pics i could get, they were kind of tough to get while i was there. and dont ask about the names of the images, becuase i didnt rename them, my friend did and he didnt know what they were at the time.
p.s. mods, if this is too many pics, let me know and i will just post links. thanks!!
mods again, the pictures are huge, should i load them to esato????

Work to build a skyscraper on the site of Ground Zero took a step forward with the erection of two steel columns.
The 25-ton columns -- one of which bears the signatures of American workers who helped make it -- mark a milestone in efforts to replace the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York.
As construction workers, politicians and architects applauded, a massive crane lifted the first, 31ft-high column, which was painted with an American flag and the words "Freedom Tower," and set it over steel bars on the southern edge of the tower's base.
A second column set a few feet away carried the signatures of steelworkers and politicians from Virginia, where it spent time at a steel company before being shipped to New York.
A third column lay on its side, plastered with signatures of New Yorkers and September 11 victims' relatives as well as pictures of some firefighters killed in the 2001 attack. It will be installed in the next few days.
By next spring, 27 of the jumbo steel columns will anchor the skyscraper and rise to street level -- about 70 feet (21 metres) from the bottom of ground zero.
"Today the steel rises, the Freedom Tower rises from the ashes of September 11, and the people of New York and the people of America can be proud," Governor George Pataki said.
The 1,776-foot (532.8-metre) tower, set to open in 2011, is to be the tallest of the five skyscrapers planned to replace the trade centre.
"Rising from the heart of the World Trade Centre site, the Freedom Tower will symbolise the spirit of our city and our nation: inspiring, soaring and undefeated," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
The tower has had more than one design and groundbreaking; politicians laid a granite cornerstone in July 2004 to begin construction, but had to move the building after city police said it was too close to traffic, making it vulnerable to terrorism.

I think the Freedom Tower is a good monument to freedom and liberty. 1776 ft tall. I will be making sure I visit this one after its built.

I don't really think that competing for the tallest building in the world was really the idea, rather a brighter and taller tower to show that we don't give in to terroists, hence the 'freedom' tower...
