Hello all!

Sorry late reply, I was living it up all weekend

The main thing is the idea that phones are one of those things that don't quite seem to be right. It seems like something that for some reason seems to be an icon of materialism. Other example is definately the car. It's something that is as irrational as it is rational. People don't use thier phones, they _love_ them.

3 sides of a person; id (logic), ego (emotion), and theta (society).

A phone, like a car is as much about emotions and society values as it is about logic.
For someone like me, who's favorite thing is logic over theta and ego the mobile phone is a representation of all that's bad with society; letting emotions tell you what to do and impressing your friends?

So I wanted to say, don't buy it. Yes, choose life.

But I guess you'll only agree with me if you perfer logic to emotion and socialness. Some people are getting buried with thier mobiles. Is that an indication of something that can levered for profit?

Vlammetje: yes I know the car computer problem; deliberate encryption of the system to lock out 3rd parties such as other garages, to put a levy on the price of repair. I also heard BMW's are the worst. Some information is standardised so crash investigators can get to it but that's only basic info. I'm sure this is why all the mechanics I know drive Vauxhall Cavaliers! The OFT is surely just a toothless token appeasement in matters like this across the board.

they do sometimes get on your nerves, and perhaps companies to put minor bugs or make something less good/powerful as it should be so you upgrade to the next. but to be honest, i enjoy spending loads of money i havn't got on cool uber products.

If these companies don't keep these kinky bugs in phones, how else do they convince you to buy the next model probably coming out next month or perhaps week. If you dont like their marketing trick, buy one that meets your needs and forget bout fones till something really impressive is released.

Networks dont make much profit from hardware anyway, they make it from downloads such as ringtones, screensavers, subscriptions to pointless things like News and Sport info and unnecessary things like Video Calling.

Therefore I've disabled 3G on my V800 and use my mediaplayer instead.
I wont waste my money on irrelevant network services.

We all know that the pace of change in the computer industry is designed to rip us off. But the even more rediculous pace of change (for change's sake) in the mobile industry makes buying a new phone a potential minefield. I think some of Jago's original comments about standardised connectors and modular upgradable cameras, etc, are good.
It'll never happen though.

Why are we all still here?

I know a great number of people here on Esato have moved up through a wide range of SE handsets to the latest models...SE must be doing something right?

First of all, are you convinced of what you mean? I always feel balanced about se phones. Get for what you pay.

It's the same as the guy who buys the first house in a subdivision: the next house to go up blocks his view.

How many people bought a iPod photo only to find an iPod video comes out later.
Why did VW wait 4 years to release the convertible version of the New Beetle?
Have you not seen the comments on the W900 thread by disgruntled W800 owners who would have waited?

W950 will be the same - no camera and no MSPD facility.
The next model announced will be a W950 with either of those included.
But not until they've got us buying the W950.

Don't get me wrong, are my favourite brand by far but they play the game like every one else. At least game consoles stay in production for a decent length of time.
