S60? you've got to be kidding me. i recently got one just out of curiosity since i haven't owned a bokia in years, and so many people are raving about it. it may be a symbian phone alright, but in so many ways, my W900 does a much better job. (i won't even get into P-Series comparisons)

first of all, i have never had a crash on my W900. lucky me perhaps. but i tell you, i have seen so many more white screen crashes/reboots on the S60 than i did with my P800 and P910 combined. and my crashes are not because of using 3rd party apps. these are simple things such as backing up the phone memory to the card using the built-in bokia app.

audio quality is so mediocre. many of the mp3 tones i put in just sound so distorted and sound quality is like a cheap transistor radio. i don't even bother wasting my time putting a single mp3 track on it. the supposed 262k screen? damn, my K750 has much better picture quality, i won't even bother comparing W900 screens with it. (newer models are probably better, but you should at least be able to spot a difference with a 65k screen right?)

and then there is the speed. how often do you hear complaints about SE menu speed? there always seem to be people whining about it. well, tell them to try an S60 and they will realize just how lucky they are. every single thing you do has a lag. even just reading a bloody text message!

and opening the media gallery? good god! i timed the lag just so people don't say i'm making this up. from the main menu, i clicked on the Gallery. 5 sec later, it opens. click on Videos, list of files opens in 18 sec. click on Images 35 sec! mind you, my phone only has a 256MB memory card in it, of which only 80MB is being used. try composing an mms message and you probably could have made 5 of them in a K750 in the time it takes you to make 1 on this S60!

the phone is a 6680. i wasn't about to spend the extra for an N70 just for a bokia experiment, although from what i've read from many reviews, the only difference between the 6680 and the N70 was a better cam. FM radio and an extra 25MB RAM.

i will say that data transmission speed is pretty good, both on EDGE and 3G, although when using it as a modem for my PDA, it does have more data transmission errors than my W900. don't know why. and running opera on symbian is so much better than opera mini as a java app.

so what have i learned? going by the spec sheet, the bokia is indeed a very impressive phone. (even if this is a 6680, it was a top-line model just a year ago. and just about all the reviews i have read say there are no real fundamental differences with the N70) the problem is in the implementation, which is just oozing with mediocrity. whether you are talking about screen quality, audio quality, system performance or even battery life which is about a third of my W900, with both using 900mah batteries.

it seems like the specs are there for marketing reasons. but once you start using them, you end up screaming and grabbing for your SE every time. damn, even my P800 was so much better than this.

this is the last bokia i am ever spending my money on. but i shall keep this phone, not only to use on nights where i expect heavy inebriation, but also as a reminder of how lucky i am everytime i encounter a problem with my SE's.

bokia fanatics can feel free to flame me. but this is based on actual experience trying to do the exact same things with my SE. nothing is going to change my opinion on that.

You wouldn't be complaining if you've tried to watch a video on the K750/W800 . Although Super Real tennis looks great and plays smoothly it can't play 176x128 MP4 videos very well (I've tried out quite a few from the K750/W800 high quality videos forum).
I was quite happy with this announcement of using nVidia GoForce 4800 for the W900 and I'm planning to buy the W950 when it releases if it has the nVidia 4800 chip also (unless the reviews show that I should wait for a mobile with the GoForce 5500 GPU).
EDIT: Incorrectly assumed that the W950 will also have the nVidia GPU. It has the Philips Nexperia PNX4008 chip. Hope it will be good enough for smooth QVGA playback and some light 3D gaming.
